Prather of the Pra ther Chevrolet Co., had charge of the Kiwanis club program Tues day at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. He gave an outline of the General Motors Safety Program for 4-H club boys and girls, and later presented a 15-minute motion pic ture program which demonstrated the good and reckless impulses that are ever present with motorists. The reckless “devil” kept suggest ing speed, take a chance, etc., while the “other fellow” advised caution. , Guests at the meeting included Pfc. Holland Brady, Jr., Mr. Fox of Charlotte, Harry White of Spartanburg, and two 4-H club boys, Gerald Edwards and Grady Parker. Pfc. Holland Brady arrived home Tuesday morning from overseas service with the army in Europe. He arrived" in Boston last week end and came to Tryon from Fort Bragg. J. M. “Ken” Melton, formerly deputy sheriff of Polk County is now special deputy sheriff of Caldwell County,- with headquar ters at Lenoir, N. C. He is also general manager of the Brown Mountain Beach. To save the gardener’s back and make old tools work easily, sharp en them now and keep them sharp all season. For general sharpen ing, have an 8 or 10 inch file, a whetstone, and possibly an emery wheel. The most useful whetstone is made of carmorundum with one side fine and one course. When sharpening a blade, push it one way only, and stroke the full length of the stone.
