COMING TO TRYON _Continued from Page One member in St. Petersburg. Dr. Jockinsen is a graduate of Lawrence College, Columbia University, and Union Theological Seminary. He was a Chaplain in World War No. 1, then served as pastor of the Pilgrim Congrega tional church, Lansing, Mich., for six years, and in 1925 went to Manhattan, Kansas, as pastor of an influential college church for six years. In 1931 Dr. Jockinsen was called to the Union Church of Manila, Philippine Islands, and was pastor of this church from 1931 to 1936, serving all the Pro testant American and European people in Manila. The St. Petersburg Church, his present pastorate since 1936, is the strongest Congregational Church in the South, and one of the ten most largely attended Congrega tional Churches in the Nation. During the winter season, both morning and evening audiences range from 1,200 to 1,700, with often 2,400 on Easter Sunday when an early service is held. - Mrs. Jockinsen, who attended Michigan State College, will ac company her husband to Tryon. They have two children, Ruth, 18, and Paul, 15, who arrived in Try on with their parents on Wednes day. Miss Hallie Hicks of Tryon is a patient at St. Luke’s hospital. Ned Rufus Lindsey, 21, water tender, second class, USNR, of Lynn, N. C., arrived at Norfolk, Va., recently to train for duties aboard a new destroyer of the Atlantic Fleet. Lindsey is a. Veteran of 20 months’ aboard an attack trans port in the Atlantic and Pacific. He wears ribbons for the Ameri can Theatre, the European-Afri can-Middle Eastern Theatre with one star, and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre with two stars. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Lindsey of Lynn. He was graduated from Stearns High School in Columbus, N. C. John Madison of Tryon Route One is in St. Luke’s hospital for treatment.
