PALMER—PERRIE Mr. and Mrs. Marion C. Pal mer, Jr., who were married on Dec. 4th, at Orangeburg, S. C., went on their honeymoon to Savan nah, Ga., and have arrived at Dr. . Palmer’s Cliffside Ranch to make their home. Mrs. Palmer is the former Miss Jean Perrie of Lake Lure, N. C., and Los Angeles, Calif. She is a talented artist who has divided her time between California and Wes tern North Carolina for several years. Mr. Palmer is the son of Dr. and Mrs. M. C. Palmer of Tryon. He is a graduate of the North Carolina State College and has been manager of his father’s ranch ever since graduation. COMMUNICATIONS The Tryon Schools will be closed the remainder of this week and next for the Christmas holi days. The schools will reopen December 31. The vacation for the Christmas holidays has been changed on ac count of the extremely cold weath er and the influenza epidemic. Many of the students have been out sick as well as the teachers. This yardstick will help eliminate guess work: One pound of unshelled almonds yields about 1 cup of shelled kernels; 1 pound of filberts, about 1 1-3 cups; 1 pound of peanuts, about 2 cups; 1 pound of pecans, almost IV2 cups; 1 pound of English walnuts, a little more than IV2 cups halved kernels; and 1 pound of black walnuts, about one-half cup brok en kernels.
