If you are a veterans of World War II and unfortunately did not graduate from high school, it is possible now to take an examina tion which, if passed, will obtain the high school diploma. This is true especially where a veteran needs only one or two subjects. While in service you may have had training for which you wish to secure credit in meeting require ments for high school graduation. This demand of the armed forces personnel for academic credit for educational achievements as well as military training and experi ences prompts the new system of accreditation. It has been suggested that a credit of one unit be allowed to any student who needs such credit, for a year’s service in the armed forces. This unit of credit for gen eral military experience may be counted as a unit in social studies. If he has two or more years of ser vice he may be allowed not to ex ceed two units in meeting the re quirement of 16 units for gradu ation. If a student cannot meet re quirements for graduation from high school on basis outlined above he or she may attend a regular high school or instiution where refresher courses are offered. The State Department of Public Instruction and the North Carolina College Conference have adopted a plan for admission of these and other veterans to college by ex amination. This examination will be given at colleges. This test ing program will include a psy chological test, an English test, a mathematics test and a reading test. A diploma granted in this manner will be accorded equal status with the diploma granted in the usual way. This information was received by Jack C. Winchester, N. C. Vet erans Commission, Morgan ton, N. C., where you may obtain more detailed information. You may also contact the principal of your high school or superintendent or schools for information on taking tests and other advice to veterans on completion of high school edu cation. Wm. M.
