EX-SERVICE MEN AND WIVES PLEASE NOTE Up to the time of the “New Deal” voters in Polk County were equally divided between the two political parties. That is the way it should be. Our government was based on that principle according to the Constitution. But under the “New Deal”, by methods hate ful to intelligent Democrats and Republicans alike our rightful two party system has almost disap peared in the scramble for Feder al money handed out by the poli ticians in ways cleverly devised to give them a strangle hold on all of us. Free enterprise is be ing ham-strung. The politicians who have inherited “New Deal” methods even though they may deny that they are “New Dealers” have made such a mess of things that our meat shelves are empty, our food shelves are empty, and we can’t get hammers and nails and lumber to fix our sheds and homes. Now we younger men ana women who fought this war and made the munitions have come home to find that we have a new war on our hands,—a war to be fought per sonally in all our precincts with ballots instead of bullets. We have GOT to get into this fight and put our own younger men in the places of these old line politicians who have surrendered to the “New Deal” in order to intrench them selves in political power. Here in Polk County it looks as if some of the old line politicians see the hand-writing on the wall. If not, why has Congressman Bul winkle been hanging around the last few weeks? And why did they try to divide our Tryon Pre cinct? “Divide and rule” is an old trick. It took courage for a young G. I. just back from the front to raise his voice against that deal. We ought to have a new party of all men and women who wiil nut patriotism ahead of politics. But since we’ve got to work with what we have, we young Republican men and women are forming THE NEW REPUBLICAN CLUB and propose to do something about this situation. We hare a young man of keen brain and exalted patriotism named C. Y. Nanney to take the place of old. line “New Deal” politician Bulwinkle in Washing ton. WE INVITE ALL CITIZENS OF THE COUNTY TO COME TO HARMON FIELD NEXT WED NESDAY, OCTOBER SECOND, and hear him. If you care to at tend the FISH-FRY before the speaking, drop a post card to Fred Swann, Tryon, so our committee can buy the food; and bring a dollar when you come. Picnic at 6:30. Speaking at 7:30. Mr. Nanney is a great, patriot. He surmounted physical handicaps which would have kept most men out of the services, through cour age and an indomitable will to serve and a keen business brain. In spite of being crippled he camp an expert aviator. In most stormy and dangerous areas on the coast. Then they sent him to Massachusetts Institute of Technology and trained him in RADAR for 18 months and he con tinued to the end of the war in that service. That is the kind of man we YOUNG RPUBLICANS propose to send to Washington in place of old line politician, Bul winkle. We need the help of e^ patriotic citizen and friend of F County. Nianney has a superb ri voice and training. We want to buy time for him in the impor tant industrial centers. Send liberal checks to Fred Swann, NEW REPUBLICAN CLUB, Try on ; or to Ernest Gibbs, Chairman of the Nanney Fund, Columbus, N. C., AND SEND THE MONEY NOW. Thank you. The objects of THE NEW RE PUBLICAN CLUB are to get all young men and women in all pre cincts to register, to study the election laws and our American methods of government in small groups so that we can do our part.
