Mother of C. 0. Smith Passes Mrs Frances Thorne Smith, 86, mother of Claude 0. Smith, Tryon Town Manager, and daughter of the late Capt. William T. and Mary Turner Thorne, passed away early this morning at her home at Cowpens, S. C., after an illness of about 10 weeks. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at the First Baptist Church of Cowpens. Mirs. Smith’s nephew, Rev. Mr. Thorne, assisted by Rev. Mr. Stewart, will conduct the services. Grandsons will act as pallbearers. Mrs. Smith, a native of the Arrowood community near Chesnee, was the widow of the late John M,. Smith of Cowpens. She is sur vived by two sons, Claude O. Smith of Tryon and Landrum; Rev. L. B. Smith of Norfolk, Va., and four daughters, Mrs. John F. Brown of Landrum and Misses Jennie, Bertha and Ethel Smith of Cow pens; also 30 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Wakeman C. Bell of Cleveland, 0., are guests of Mjrs. Herbert Beck at The Spanish Court. Tonsil operations at St. Luke’s hospital for Lucy Rhodes, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rhodes; Meredith Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Wilson; Samuel Pace, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Pace. Mr. and Mjrs, A. L. Bahler have returned to Tryon after an ex tended tour of the country. Mrs. Ernest Heatherly of Sa luda is a patient at St. Luke’s hospital.
