John Lee Powell Killed In Airplane Crash John Lee Powell, AFAN, U. S. Navy Airman, arid son of Mr. and Mrs. Quincy M. Powell, of Mill Spring, died Tuesday, April 19th, from injuries received as the result of an airplane crashing into the island structure of the U.S.S. Sib oney at sea. Kear Admiral l. L*. bprague, Chief of Naval Personnal, notified young Powell’s parents on Wednes day and stated that the body was beyig prepared for shipment to place designated by the family. McFarland Funeral Home of Try on has charge of the arrangements and it is expected the funeral will be held this week-end. The deceased is a graduate of - Mill Spring High School, class of 1945. He attended Spartanburg Junior College before entering the Navy, where he had been for nearly three years. Survivors include liis parents, Mr. and Mrs-. Quincy M. Powell, of Mill Spring; one sister, Mrs. M. G. (Iris) Browning of Spartan burg; two brothers, Melville Powell of Mill Spring and William Powell of Spartanburg. William E. Knight left Wed nesday for Washington, D. C., to spend his 80th birthday, April 22. with his friends, the Clifford Berrymans, in Washington, D, C. Later he will visit friends and re latives in New York, New Jersey and Vermont before returning to Tryon. Mr. and Mrs. William Ostrander Witt of Sunset Hill, Staten Island, N. Y., are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. S. Clark. Mrs. W. F. Little, who went to Charleston, S. C., to meet her niece, Mrs. Robert Heldt, of Oak land City, Ind., who had been va cationing at Daytona Beach, Fla., has returned to Tryon accompanied by Mrs. Heldt. Enroute to Tryon they visited Jimmy Little at Chapel Plill and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Little and family at Durham. DAILY BULLETINS—5c each.
