Block House Steeplechase To Be Held Here Saturday Continued, from Paae One — J. A. Reynolds, ridden by G. Allen, this is a 6-year-old; Brush Boy, owned by Willis Kuhn and ridden by J. Brant, a 7year-old gelding. The Villa Vase, has seven entries. Miss Peru, 12-year-old mare, owned by Burford Danner and ridden by Miss Sue Tucker; Flake, 6-year old mare, owned by Miss Walsh, ridden by Miss Walsh; Carazon, 6-year-old mare, owned and ridden by Miss Rogers; Polite, 3-year old gelding, owned and ridden by Miss H. Walsh; Lorbeau, 12-year old gelding, owned by B. Danner, ridden by Mrs. Danner; Clear Drive, 10-year-old gelding, owned and ridden by Miss A. Hines; Pacolet, 10-year-old gelding, owned by J. A. Reynolds and ridden by Mrs. Betty Queen. The North Carolina's Hunt Cup race is for three miles over timber for four-year-olds and upward, and includes the following entries to start: Friars Melody, 6-year-old gelding, owned by Col. P. T. Cheff, ridden by Gerald Helder; Moonshee, 10-year-old gelding, owned by C. P. Brown and ridden by C. W. Brown; Poniar Seniah, 7-year-old gelding, owned by Mrs. E. T. H. Talmage, and ridden by Austin Brown. The Tryon race, which will be for three-year-olds and upward. This race is for six- furlongs. En tries include Storm On, 9-year-old gelding, owned by Dr. J. Youmans, ridden by G. Allen; Corregidor, 6 year-old gelding, owned by Mrs. M. Walsh and ridden by M. Walsh Jr.; Play It Out, 4-year-old geld ing, owned by J. A. Reynolds, rid den by C. W. Brown. The main event of the day, The Block House Steeplechase, which is for two miles over brush for four-year-olds and upward, has 10 horses entered for the start, as follows: Bluish, 8-year-old mare, owned and ridden by Austin Brown; Prairie Imp, 9-year-old gelding, owned by D. Cummings, ridden by Chas. Sweatt jr.; Friars Melody, 6-year-old gelding, owned by Col. P. T. Cheff, ridden by Ger ald Helder; Storm On, 9-year-old gelding, owned by Dr. J. Youmans, ridden by G. Allen; Lanstip, 10 year-old mare, owned by P. T. Cheff and ridden by J. Helder; Masic Shift, 13-year-old gelding, owned by B. Danner, ridden by B. Dan ner; Tagnall, 9-year-old gelding, owned by M. Walsh and ridden by C. Cameron; Tofresia, aged mare, owned by C. D. Peirce, ridden by R. Sarver; Briansan, 10-year-ol'd gelding, owned by H. M. Rhett Jr., ridden by C. W. Brown; Clear Drive, 10-year-old gelding, owned by Miss A. Hines, rider not named. The Block House Steeplechase is the only known course which is run in three counties and two st|^k namely, Polk, Spartanburg Greenville Counties, and North and South Carolina states, respectively. This year’s races will have sanc tioned runnings in The North Carolina Cup, and the The felock House Steeplechase. This is the first of the Mid-west meetings. Sanction is by the Hunts Commit tee of National Steeplechase and Hunt Association. THE GARDEN CLUB A group of garden lovers gath ered at Mrs. 'Nelson Jackson’s hos pitable home Wednesday, for the regular meeting of the Tryon Garden Club. The subject was Pearson’s Falls. Mrs. D. C. Brundage, chairman of the committee for Pearson’s Falls, read a letter from Don^^ Peattie, written from France y^H| ago, when an earlier club was WW si^ering the purchase of the tract. Mr. Peattie wrote that the vege tation there is unique, that there are 240 varieties of plants and flowers, and many mosses, algae, etc. He stated that there/is noth ing else like the glen in this gen eral region, including Mt. Mitchell, and that certain plant species were first discovered there. Mrs. Brundage introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Marie L. Lord, of Burlington, Iowa, a member-at large of the Garden Club of Ameri ca, who gave a most interesting talk in which she praised the rare collection of flora to be found at Pearson’s Falls.
