Tryon continue to improve in cleanliness. A lot of people will have to be reminded to throw their ice cream cartons, paper cups, cigaret wrappers, empty envelopes into the trash containers on the streets. When the policemen see merchants sweep ing their side walks*,, reminder to the trash in the container will *ar towards keeping the streets n. They are washed and swept every morning now. Merchants, of all people, are interested in keeping the streets clean for visi tors and customers. Favorable comment has been heard on the cooperation of the people in ob serving the one hour parking law. It seems that most people don't want the parking meters if it can be prevented. . . . The big bridge tournament at Oak Hall this com ing Saturday should attract at least 102 players from the two Carolinas .... Vacation Iffeps of the Blue Ridge and Great Smokies have arrived at Missil-7 dine’s and Owen’s Pharmacies and will be at other places soon. William Hunt of Ashe ville, executive officer of this dis trict for the State Highway Patrol, will be the guest speaker at the Tryon Kiwanis Club Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. He will dis cuss various phases of the safety program for state highways. Har old Griffith will be in charge of the program. TRYON MEN 1 IN A 100 Of the 297 air force officers out of 2,300 applications, given permanent rank in the regular service by Presidential nomina tions, three of them were from Tryon. In a list published by a Pacific Coast newspaper were the names of second lieutenants Rich ard M. McClure, George D. Cook sey Jr., and Distinguished Cadet ? Wm. T. Capers III. McClure and Cooksey have temporary rank of first lieutenant. Family of Army Officer • To Live In Tryon • Maj. Don Preston Peters Jr., Mrs. Peters and children, Peg and Pete, of Travis Army Field Base, Fairfield, Calif., were the guests of Mrs. Peters’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy H. Sowards, while en rout$, to their home in Lynchburg, Va. Major Peters, a flight sur geon, who has been assigned overseas duty, left Sunday, by plane, for the point from which he will fly tp the area of his new assignment.
