The French gave the Communists a setback in elections Monday as DeGaulist party wins victories . . . Secretary of State Thad Eure has granted incorporation papers to the Family Loan and Finance Co., in Forest City. Roy Blackwell, formerly of Tryon, and Fred and Thelma Sellers are the incorpor ators with $100,000 capital stock. . . All Tryon bridge players l^feether they play in the regular t^Jpljcate tournaments or not, are invited- and expected to participate i in the big duplicate tournament at Oak Hall Saturday. The pairings committee is headed by R. B. White; call him -and he will find you a congenial partner if you haven’t one. A member of the committee said today, “Each of us must take it upon himself to make this tournament a success. The Tryon club is the smallest that has ever dared- to hold a large tourna ment. Only a few of us make up our home tables. So we must have more Tryon players than usual. ‘It is so essential to help create that Tryon atmosphere for our visitors. Please come and play Saturday. Get your own partner of _Continued on Back Page_ ENTER ARMED FORCES The following Polk County men left Tryon this morning for the induction center: James Frank Foy, Lynell Miller, Huland War ren Copeland, Bryant Homer Wo mack, Arthur Haynes (volunteer). The Rev. Charles L. McGavern served as chaplain for the Home Friendly Club and presented each man with a prayer book, and the Rotary Club supplied them with j cigarettes. Melton On Police Force J. M. Melton of Columbus has been appointed night policeman for Tryon. Mr. Melton has been an arresting officer for 20 or more years, having served as deputy sheriff and constable. He is a na tive of Polk County of the Cooper’s Gap section. t Mr. Melton was sworn in today and will go on duty tonight. HOSPITAL NEWS New patients at St. Luke’s Hos pital include Mrs. Jim Moore, Mrs. Ted Welker, Mrs. A. V. Dye, all of Tryon and Mrs. Tishie Searcy of Mill Spring. Patients dis charged include Helen Holmes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Holmes. Reynolds Horses Winners J. Arthur Reynolds has return ed from Upperville, Va., where his horses, Ladac and Tom Dolan, were in the blue ribbons throughout the show and came away with the light weight green hunter trophy. The Upperville show is the oldest in Virginia and one of the oldest jn the nation.
