Rev. and Mrs. LeRoy Leppard have returned from the Southern Baptist Con vention at San Francisco. Enroute home they encountered snowstorm. Today’s papers report 20 inches of snow at Yellowstone National Park that blocked U. S. Highway 12 . . . Mrs. H. L. Arledge reports that the Arts and Crafts exhibit at Asheville City auditorium is one of the finest things ever held in 4gdieville and that everyone should B it if possible. All kinds of nmive craft are being made this week by master craftsmen ... A few days ago the North Carolina State Highway Patrol celebrated its 22nd anniversary by making 39 promotions in the Hall of the House of Representatives at Ral eigh. Lieutenant D. G. Lewis of Fayetteville, an original member of the 37-man patrol, which has now grown to a 528 man unit, was raised to the rank of captain. jCapt. Lewis is a son-in-law of Mrs. Elizabeth Rhodes of Tryon. Sgt. H. R. Frymoyer of Salisbury who used to be in this territory was named technical sergeant .... The Asheville Citizen reports that 60 whiskey distilleries were de _Continued on Back Page_ | MRS. SOUTHER’S MOTHER Funeral services will be held' this afternoon at 4 for Mcrs. Lula Edwards Greer, 85, mother of Mrs. Charles Souther of Tryon, who passed away Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter in Tryon. She was the widow of Johnnie R. Greer. Services will be held at the Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Rutherford jCounty, where she was a member for years. > She is survived by seven daugh J ters, two sons, 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, and one sister. GOLF RESULTS The Tryon Women’s Golf Asso ciation had 20 members out for luncheon Tuesday at the club house. Mrs. Gaden Corperiing and Miss Jane Brown were in charge. In the Blind Partner Golf tour nament Mrs. Holland Brady and Mrs. Geo., Hanscomtytied for first place with a net or 72. Mrs. Seth M. Viriing won the putting contest with 18 putts. HOSPITAL NEWS The following patients were ad mitted to St. Luke’s Hospital: Brooks Michel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Michel, Tryon; Miss Betty Gibson, Columbus; Shannon Meriwether, Tryon; Lawless Tal ley, Tryon. Mrs. Woodrow Hague of Tryon and Alvin Turner, son of Mrs. Lois Turner of Tryon were discharged from the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Holbert are the parents of a girl born at 6; 16 p. m. July 10th. Consumption of meat this year is expected to be about 147 pounds per person.
