Robertson, a retired offi cial of the National Lead Co.,\ spoke at the Kiwanis Club Tues day at Oak Hall Hotel. He told of the discovery of tatanium in 1791 by William Gregor in Scot land, but stated that nothing had come of this discovery until recent years because no one was able to find a practical way to separate the pure metal from the ore. The | present method is still not satis factory and a pound of tatanium costs around $20. According to Mr. Robertson, I tatanium is one-half the weight i of steel and of equal strength. It retains its strength at high temperatures and has the toughness of armor plate. Tatanium is also a poor conductor of electricity and heat and has a high resistance to corrosion, much more than stainless steel. The speaker "stated that th© Armed Forces at present get all of the tatanium output, but that he believed tatanium had tremendous possibilities for com mercial uses in the next few years. Bedford King of Inman, S. C., was a guest of the club. Wesley Mize had charge of the program.
