weather is bad over much of the
nation. Snow and ice storms as
far south as Asheville and At
lanta; cold, rain and floods. Flori
da was hit by storm that uprooted
trees and blew over trailers and
damaged stores. New England un

50,000 people in New York, New
Jersey and Connecticut without
electric _ power. In Tryon area
heavy winds blew down' some trees
and in a few places power lines

were being restored. A section of
the wall of the Drive-In Theatre
at Lake Lanier fell in, but no
other serious damage had been re
ported at press time. . . . This is
a busy week in Tryon with num
erous meetings. The Masons, Epis

Men are having their regular

Meets Tuesday Night
All members of the Tryon Cham
ber of Commerce and any visitors
interested in the welfare of the
community will meet Tuesday
night, January 13th, at 8, at Oak
Hall for a discussion of objectives
for the coming year.
NEW KIWANIS PLANS
Tryon Kiwanis plans for 1953
as outlined by the various com
mittee chairmen will make up the
program Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Oak
Hall. Program Chairman Albert
Simpson stated Monday that this
would give the members an oppor
tunity to view the objectives and
prospective activities of the or
ganization.
LIONS LADIES’ NIGHT
The Tryon Lions Club will hold
a Ladies’ Night program Tuesday
night, Jan. 13th, at 7:30 at which
time movies will be shown of the
International Lions Convention
held in Mexico City. This conven
tion was attended by Oliver Tay
lor as a delegate of the Trvon
Club.
Women’s Bridge Tourney
The Women’s Bridge Tourna
ment for members of the Country
Club and their guests, will be
held Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 13.
Dessert will be served at 1:30.
BISHOP HENRY HERE
The«Rt. Rev. M. George Henry
of the Diocese of Western North
Carolina will speak at the Episco
nal Church in Tryon following the
dinner at 6:45 given by the Men of
Holy Cross Church. The subject
of his address will be “The Nature
of God.” '
