Landrum Tops Christ Church 28-23 The Landrum Cardinals had to come from behind to defeat Christ Church 28-23 Friday night at Greenville. The game was a spectator's delight as the lead see-sawed back and forth. Landrum struck first on a 3- yard run by Johnny Wilkins. Gary Tucker added the placement to make it 7-0. Near the end of the first quarter Christ Church scored on a 7-yard pass from O'Brien to Hendershot. Richardson added the placement to make it 7-7. In the second quarter Christ Church went ahead 10-7 when Richardson booted a 28-yard field goal. Just before halftime Terry Waldrop scored for Landrum from the 6 and Tucker’s kick was good to make it 14-lOat half. In the 3rd quarter Landrum stretched its lead to 21-10 as QB Red Page scored from the 1 and Tucker added the placement. Christ Church scored on a 17 yd. pass from O'Brien to Hendershot and Richardson added the placement to make it 21-17. In the fourth period Christ Church went into the lead 23-21 when Patton went over from the three and the kick failed. Late in the 4th quarter the Cardinals put the winning points on the scoreboard on a 37-yard pass from QB Waldrop to Barry Bruce. Tucker added the placement and it was 28-23. Landrum's Coach Steve Coley said that the team played well in spots, but wasn't consistant. He said the Cardinals were plagued with penalties and turnovers. He i said the offensive line blocked better and that freshmen Red Page gave a good account of himself at QB for the 3 quarters he played. He thought that tackle Gary Tucker had his best game and that linebacker Mark Miller had two key pass interceptions and a number of tackles. Landrum, now 4-2, will play Oakway Friday at Landrum for its homecoming game. Landrum 7 7 7 7 - 28 ChristChurch 7 3 7 6 - 23 Landrum C. C.
