Foundation Fits Cash To Needs You can now walk into Lanier Library on a new slip-resistant concrete walk, and if by chance you’re locomoting on crutches or a wheel chair, you’ll note there is not a single step to be climbed. Railings, are in and edge plantings are due any day. This is an instance of how Polk County Community Foundation participates in the physical improvement of institutions serving the communities of Polk County. Lanier Library Association decided to make a number of needed capital improvements, marking its 90th birthday, and one improvement much desired was a safer and stepless walkway from Melrose Avenue into the Library. Cost of all improvements was to be $11,400.00. President Joseph L. Knowlton of the Lanier Library wrote the Foundation, requesting $3,500.00 for construction of the walk, and the money was granted Polk County Community Foundation, of course, is not a cornucopia of unlimited funds — but it is a public charitable corporation serving the people of Polk County. Prior to its establishment in 1975. no other single organization existed which could receive gifts, bequests and other deferred gifts to the ultimate benefit of other qualified organizations in our community. The Foundation can give money only to organizations which are tax exempt. These organizations are actively engaged in educational, cultural or charitable activities, beneficial to their communities. Lanier Library qualified under these counts. payable to the Foundation, gifts through the Book of Memory — all are desired. When you next visit the Lanier Library, you'll walk in on a solid example of how The Foundation is using income from such gifts to improve the quality of life in Polk County — which is the stated aim of The Polk County Community Foundation, Incorporated. — Reporter Kim Pack Is Homecoming Princess Tryon Daily Bulletin.
