Mrs. Pomeroy Gets 1000 Hour Bar The St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary Board met on November 12 in the N.C.N B. conference room, Mrs Frank Waldenfels, president, presiding. Mrs James Flack. Member ship chairman, reported to date mere are 120 members enrolled. Auxiliary dues are $2 00 per year. Mrs. A. P. Steuerwald, Thrift Shop chairman, announced that a “Style Show" will be held on Wednesday, January 28th, 1981 at Hearthstone Inn. The Thrift Shop will accept any items, including furniture, and all donated items are tax-deductible. Mrs Duncan White, Reception Desk Chairman, reported 5,265 hospital visits, and 245 clerical visits during October There is a continuing need for magazines, for the Book Cart and lobby, and contributions will be greatly appreciated. When you have finished with yours, bring them to the hospital. The Junior Volunteer program now has 20 girls enrolled, whose services are much needed and appreciated Ms. Paula Harkins, Director of Volunteer Services, announced a total of 1,178 in-hospital volunteer hours for October, and 430 Thrift Shop volunteer hours Awards for October were a 100-hour pin to Mrs. Fred Ingram, Thrift Shop and a 1,000 hour bar to Mrs. Arthur Pomeroy, Reception Desk Mrs. Harkins stated that tentative plans are now being made for orientation sessions for volunteers every other month. Howard Spika, hospital president, emphasized that everything possible is being done to keep hospital costs to a minimum without cutting down on patient care. He explained and emphasized strongly the pressing need for an inter com system in the Emergency Unit which at present is usually staffed by only one R. N. in a 6-room unit. Such a system can be installed for as little as $700 by the hospital engineer, rather than for the $2,000 price originally presented. This 5700 cost will be met by the Auxiliary. Mr. Spika pointed out that St. Luke's has the finest ambulance service in the southeast, and stated that an emergency run to the Red Fox area and back to the hospital can be made within 13 minutes, with the patient being monitored all the way. Mrs. Joseph Thurber is Gift Shop chairman. Mrs. Ralph Tucker, Treasurer, announced a proposed budget for the new fiscal year of 534,500, with disbursements approximating 511,979. This budget was approved and carried. All moneys received from membership dues, contributions, memorials, Gift and Thrift shop receipts are used for the needs of the hospital.
