P.H.A. At Tryon High School a new Tryon is sponsoring a new club organization this year entitled, Future Homemakers of America. Any high school student, boy or girl, previously or currently enrolled in a home economics course is eligible for membership. Future Homemakers of America is a national and state organization sponsored by the American Home Economics Association and the Home Economics Educational Staff of the U. S. Office Education. Elected representatives, students as well as adults, determine policies and procedures at the National, State and local level. The goals are to promote leadership, responsibility, respect and self-development among members; assist and promote beneficial services to the community and school; provide opportunities for decision-making; promote understanding between youth and adults; and to develop interest in Home Economics and related occupations. Presently the Tryon Chapter is selling Christmas wrapping paper and silk-screen Christmas ornaments with the goal of attending the State Convention in Raleigh From this trip, chapter members will learn more about the structure and potential of the FHA organization.
