16, 1980 Fires The Tryon Volunteer Fire Department was called out four times Saturday and Sunday. Saturday afternoon they put out a fire at the old John Fisher house on Capps Road. Slight damage was done. Saturday night they were called to a woods fire on Carolina Drive near The Meeting Place. They had it under control in a short time and little damage was done. Sunday afternoon they were called to help the Columbus Fire Department with a woods fire near Donald Williams home on Skyuka Road near 1-26. About two acres were burned as the strong wind made the fire difficult to contain. Sunday night they were called to a woods fire on Lake Lanier near the former Boy Scout Camp. Miss Beverly S. Ashmore of Fairfax, Va., is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs. Wm. G. Ashmore of Tryon. IYyon Daily Bulletin, Tues., Dec. The Chorus At Its Best At8p.m. on December 13 a half dozen special singers started down the aisles with a motet variation of Christmas Song, and a minute later they had blended with the entire Rotary Community Chorus on stage for the second musical Feast of Christmas. For the next ninety minutes a packed auditorium sat in rapt, — and at times almost reverent — attention as Conductor Joe Erwin led his inspired singers through a well balanced program of Christmas music. Conductor Joe Erwin again revealed his mastery, not only of music, but of the people who perform it. With very sensitive interpretations he directed his chorus into blends and nuances, a harmony of human voices, the most beautiful sound on earth. Accounting a variety of choral pieces were solo numbers by Helen Hilger, Sam Marlowe, David Halliday. Russell Cloud, Laura Miller, Charlene Pate, Barbara Halliday, Mary Ann Claud, Emmie Mackay, Claude Broach, and culminating with Inky Cloud's tender rendition of The Scotch Lullaby to end the program. The chorus is sponsored as a community project by the Rotary Club of Tryon, with all net proceeds applied to the Rotary scholarship fund. This year's performance was considerably enhanced by the acoustical shell which was designed, engineered and constructed by John Young. With the Fine Arts Center auditorium filled to capacity for both performances, unfortunately some people had to be turned down for this inspiring Christmas program. — Reporter I would like to thank the hospital staff at St. Luke's for their courteous service given to me while I was a patient there.
