Fall Clean Up
On E. Howard St.
The Mayor’s Task Force is
sponsoring a Fall Clean-Up
Campaign of the East Howard St.
area this Saturday, Oct. 24,
beginning at 10 a.m. Streets to be
included in this general litter
pick-up are Cleveland Rd.,
Markham Rd., Beech St., Aspen
St., Spruce St., Tuckaway Lane,
Jackson St., Shepherd St., Lyle
St., Peake St., and East Howard
St. All residents of these streets
who are willing to participate in
this project are asked to meet at
the Garrison Chapel Baptist
Church at the aforenamed date
and time. Further information
may be gotten by contacting
Warren Carson, Task Force
Chairman, or any member of the
Task Force.

In Landrum
On Thursday, Oct. 29th at 7:30
p.m. the candidates for office in
Landrum’s municipal election
will participate in a forum at the
A. R. Walden high school
gymnasium. There are 7
candidates seeking the city
council and 2 the mayor’s seat

Wynona 0. Fisher
Named as Women of the Day
during the week of Oct. 18 — 24 by
the Thermal Belt BPW was
Wynona 0. Fisher. She is
bookkeeper and accountant for
Pace Electric Co. of Columbus.
She is a graduate of Stearns
High School and attended W. C.
U. and I. C. C. where she received
a 2 year business administration
degree.
She has served as president,
secretary and treasurer of the
Women of the Columbus
Presbyterian Church, secretary
of the Stearns PTA, director of
Youth at the Columbus
Presbyterian Church; treasurer
of the Ladies Auxiliary of the
FVW and secretary and program
director of the North Carolina
Educational Secretaries.
Mrs. Fisher has served as a
Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie
and Junior Girl Scout Leader,
Girl Scout Day Camp Director

Football Tonight
No easy games for the three
local schools tonight, as Landrum
goes to Calhoun Falls, Pendleton
comes to Tryon and Mitchell
comes to Polk Central.

The Landrum Cardinals have
the best opportunity to win. If
Landrum can win this game it
will amost cinch a playoff spot for
them. If the long ride doesn’t
wear them out the Cardinals
should win in a close one. Kickoff
is at 8 p.m.

Pendleton at Tryon
Pendleton is undefeated and
one of the powers in South
Carolina. Last year the
Pendleton coach played his subs
as was merciful to us. Let s hope
he is merciful again. Pendleton
by a big score. Kickoff is at 8
p.m.

Mitchell at Polk Central
p C. is looking for its first
win but this doesn’t look like the
week for it. Mitchell hasn t won
but one but all of its losses have
beln7o 3-A teams. If Polk Central
can develop an offense they could
keep the game close. Kickoff is at
7:30p.m.
