W. H. McDonald, Vice President
and Treasurer of the Southern
Mercerizing Co. is shown
presenting the deed to Lake
Lanier to Tryon Mayor Ken
Tucker. The Southern Merceriz
ing Co. deeded this property to
the Town of Tryon as a gift.
According to Mr. McDonald, the
Southern Mercerizing Company
no longer demands large
amounts of water from Lake
Lanier and it is his belief that
this donation and subsequent
potential development as a public
raw water supply is in the best
long-range interest of the
community. The estimated
appraised value of Lake Lanier
and the 10.35 acres is $1,500,000.
