Of Wonder”
“Chimney Rock Park: Many
Worlds of Wonder" will be the
subject for the Daffy-Jills Garden
Club program on Thursday. May
3rd at 1:30 p.m in the Fellowship
Hall of the Tryon Congregational
Church
Featured speaker will be
Elizabeth Feil. Park Naturalist
at Chimney Rock Park. A native
of Germany. Mrs. Feil came to
North Carolina in 1966 and to
Asheville in 1977. She has been
associated with Chimney Rock
Park for the past three and a half
years. While working for her
Masters Degree in Botany from
UNC Charlotte. Mrs. Feil chose
the subject of “Floristics &
Vegetation of Chimney Rock
Park" as the subject of her
thesis. This eventually lead to her
present association with the park
as the first park naturalist.
Hostess for the meeting is Mrs.
Walton Woody, with assistants

The Polk County Campus of
Isothermal Community College
and FENCE will offer you an
opportunity to participate in the
Polk County Birdwatch on
Tuesday, May 1. Instructor
Simon Thompson says, “We aim
to cover most of the different
habitats within Polk County and
see what migrant birds are
already back on their breeding
territories. We shall also attempt
to see as many of the resident
species as possible This time last
year we managed 98 species
including such birds as
Blackbilled Cuckoo. Red-headed
Woodpecker and 23 species of
Warblers " The class will meet at
FENCE at 9:00 A.M. and will
conclude at 5:00 pm. Please
bring a picnic lunch with you:
