merits of Mike Easley's decision
to call for a run-off election with
Harvey Gantt last week. The
winner, of course, will claim Ute
real prize: a chance to duke it out
with Sen. Jesse Helms
The Hendersonville Times-
News, a New York Times Co.
newspaper, said Friday that
former Charlotte Mayor Gantt is
the politician with greater
stature and more chance of beat
ing Jesse, an outcome they favor.
Easley they say, is
“inexperienced and
unseasoned,” although a bright,
rising star If he loses, they say
he will still have benefited from
the exposure and will look good
for Lt. Gov in 1992, or possibly
Congress.
In any event, the Times-News
editorial board argues that either
man will go into the general
election stronger for having won
the run-off

Thrift Shoo Suoport For St. Luke’s

over 90 volunteers, giving 500 to
600 hours of service monthly, are
members of the pricing and sales
staff. Other volunteers include Jo
Caney and Ann Smith, window
dressers, and Paul Hartman in
charge of the give-away project
who serves with J. M Jenrette
and Jim Rutledge for providing
pick up service For the fiscal
year ending September 30, 1989,
the first annual contribution in
excess of $50,000 was given to St.
Luke’s Hospital toward the
purchase of equipment,
providing scholarships in the
field of health services and
special projects.
Members of the communnity
are asked to participate in the fun
of fashion by attending ELITE
BOUTIQUE II fashion show at

in and in the funds of financing by

The Red Cross Bloodmobile
will be at the Parish House of the
Holy Cross Church in Tryon
today. Monday, from 2:30 p.m. to
6:00 pm.

chairpeople for the Bloodmible
