For CROP Walkers
Some equipped with an
umbrella, raincoat or jacket
enthusiastically left the lawn of
First Baptist Church Sunday
afternoon at 2:30. Before
returned of the 75 to 100 walkers
were very comfortable. Parents
brough a wagon for little 4 year
old, Nichole Kimbrell to get a
free ride. Ann and Ron Nail
was a good spirit of competition
watched Christopher closely as
he rode a small bike. Rev. Frank
and Margaret Mitchell kept a
steady pace as they completed
the entire six miles while Mary
Jane Christopher walked at least
four miles. Many youngsers did
the complete six miles in
approximately 1 hour 20 minutes.
Rev. Jerry Long enjoyed his
first CROP WALK. He says it was
nice for the community to bring
different elements of our
community together to help
someone besides ourselves.
Many time repeat walkers, Tom
and Molly Wilkes, Bob and Pat
Taylor were very pleased with
the group.
Recruiters will be in contact
with the walkers this week. There
was a good spirit of competation
between recruiters.
CROP walkers for WORLD
HUNGER will be contacting their
sponsors this week to collect the
sponsor money for the one to six
mile walk.
All sponsor records are
expected to be returned by Oct.
28,1990. A complete report will be

In response to the crisis in the
Middle East, the Mill Creek
Church of the Brethren in Green
Creek joined with other Brethren
churches and Christian groups
fr om across the nation calling for
October 21, 1990 to be an oil free
Sunday. On that day, the Church
members did not use gas or oil
fueld vehicles int he normal way
as a means of transportation.
Participation in this oil free
Sunday was an act of worship,
symbolizing our trust in God for
security; as a spiritual
commitment to work for a
peaceful resulution to the current
conflict; and as a sign of our
willingness to make whatever
lifestyle sacrifices God may call
us to make in the cause of peace.
This one day oil “fast” served
to remind us of the wider vision of
shalom/salaam, the Hebrew'and
Arabic greetings which convey
similar notions of peace with
wholeness. According to this
vision, we are called to restored
relationships with all the earth’s
peoples, especially those living in
less powerful nations, and with
the creation itself, which has
suffered under our abusive
misuse of petroleum.
Pictured above is Rick and Liz
Watson who appear to be a bit
winced after completing the 8-
mile bike ride to church. Susan
Wiley rode her bike from near
Boiling Springs, S.C. to the Mill
Creek Church located just off No
9, a distance of 10 miles, making
her the distance champion fo.- the
day. — Reporter
