Polk County's government
and civic leaders have been
saying for quite some time that
we better get on the stick and
come up with a county-wide
land-use plan, because "the
times they are a' changin'."
Polk County's Schools have
already faced increased student
populations which have man
dated re-organization of school
facilities.
Even before BMW announced
plans to build its first U.S.
production plan in Spartanburg
County, the number of working
adults moving into Polk County
had increased. We're still a
popular retirement area, but
commuting workers and new
businesses are finding their way

Faulkner Qualifies
For November Ballot
Ken Faulkner will run as an
unaffiliated candidate for Polk
County Board of Commission

election.
The Polk County Board of
Election met Wednesday mor

ballot qualification based on
petition signatures in excess of

needed to qualify Faulkner as a
candidate.

before jumping into something
new," Faulkner said later that
morning. "It's a conservative
feeling that I have."
The petition to put Faul
kner on the ballot was instigated
by Faulkner's son-in-law and
others, he said. Faulkner never
asked for a single signature, he
added.
Though several people earlier
asked Faulkner to run for
County Commissioner, he
turned them down, he said. But
when these people asked if they
were able to get his name on the
ballot as an unaffiliated candi
date through petition, would he
run, he said he would consider
it, Faulkner said.
Ross Perot has become an
unaffiliated presidential candi
date in much the same way.
