Mr. Gore is 38 years of age, of good character and well able to discharge the duties of the office in every way. POISON, NOT RADIO, KILLED BIRDS J. R. Lippincott, a fruit grower near Burlington, N. J., and a dozen other persons witnessed the sudden death, a few days ago, of hundreds of blackbirds in mid-air. A great flock of birds was seen flying over head. There was a violent commo tion, and then it commenced to lit erally rain blackbirds. Several hun dred fell within a small radius. The others continued on. The victims seemed to have been killed instant ly. There was no sign of outward violence. Always ready for such an emer gency, various "authorities" ad vanced theories to account for the extraodlinary happening. One was that some form of atmosphereic elec tricity did the job. Another was that conflicting radio currents in some fashion electrocuted the birds. Still another was that the birds flew into an "air pocket," such as aviators encounter, and were killed by the i suddenness of the drop or rise of !the air pressure. j The State experiment station imade short work of such ideas. Af Iter examining the organs of the dead birds, Dr. J. B. Litman, direc ; tor, explained that all of the dead I birds had feasted on Japanese beet les, which had been sprayed with a deadly poison used by farmers in fighting fruit pests.
