Jones, a PGA Class A professional, retired as the pro at Winston Lake Golf Course in 19^4 and ran his last E. Jerry Jones Pro-Am this past summer. the teaser of Winston Lake's golf cart concession. Last month, he won a new contract with the city for another foy^years of service. And he doesn't plan to slo^ down anytime soon. 44I'm working harder now that I'm retired," Jones said earlier this week. 44I also can do a little traveling. I've never been anywhere before. All my life I worked and tBdnVhave time to travel. But what I'm finding out is that people 1cnow me from all over the place because the E. Jerry Jones Pro-Am gave black golfers a chance to play for money when they couldn't play anywhere else. Lee Elder, Jim Dent, George Johnson, Chuck and Jim Thorpe, they all played in my tournament before anybody ever heard of them." Now that he has retired from * running the famous tournament, Jones is concentrating on his golf cart concession business. Coe was a senior at North Fot-\ syth, his skills could have landed him a college basketball scholarship just about anywhere. Coe averaged 21 points and hit 54 percent of his shots from the floor . He made several all-county and all-city teams. But when it came time to make his decision on where he would attend college, the WinstonSalem product chose to take his shooting touch north to Temple University. - " MI was recruited by a few Division 1 schools in the South," said Coe, who is averaging 18.2 points and 7.8 rebounds in his senior * season at Temple. However, Coe has emerged this season as oqe of the best players in the Atlantic 10 Conference. / The 6-foot-3, 180-pourftKsenior has been impressive in leading the Owls to an 8-1 start through last weekend's action. He was named Most Valuable Player in the Pizza Hut Classic in Wichita, Kan., and to the all-tournament team in the Philadelphia Classic. He also turned in a 29-point, 12-rebound effort in an 81-73 victory over defending NCAA champion vuianova, and had 17 points and 11 boards in a 64-59 overtime win over Wake Forest. 'They were big games for me," Coe said. "We needed a big win over a team like Villanova, although Villanova isn't as strong as they were last season. "Wake Forest is an Atlantic Coast Conference school. They're in a very prestigious conference. Plus, Wake Forest is from my hometown. I knew a lot of people we're going to pick up the paper to read about the game, so I wanted to have a good outing."
