Freshmen All-Americans Wanda Wiggins 5-0, Guard -South Carolina State MEAC Rookie of the Year and sec ond-team All-MEAC. A -Dean's List stu dent with a 3.4 GPA? Averaged 1 1.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 26 games. A prime reason why the Lady Bulldogs (20 10) won the MEACs regular season title. Arlene Locklln * 5-5, Guard - Grambling SWAC Freshman of the Year, Honor able Mention All-Louisiana. Started every game. Averaged 6.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.6 steals in 29 games. Ernita Purnsley 5-6, Guard - Fayetteville State CIAA All-Rookie Team, CIAA Rook ie of the Week. Led the Lady Broncos in scoring. F$U's shining light in a disap pointing 3-23 season. Averaged 14.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.9 steals in 25 games. Sheri Roddicks 6-0, Forward- Albany State BCSIDA's Freshman of the Year earned All-SIj^C, SIAC All-Tournament, and SI AC Freshman of the Year honors. SIAC Tournament MVP, Atlanta Tip-Off Club All-Division II Team. Averaged 22.7 points, 14.1 rebounds a game. Shot 54.1 percent from the field for the Lady Rams who finished the season at 20-6. Had nine double dou bles (points and rebounds) and scored 20 or more points in seven games. Averaged 15.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 29 games. Teamed with NTBenque to lead CSU to a NAIA district title. Monica Stewart 5-9, Forward - North Carolina Central ? . .... CIAA Freshman of the Year, CIAA All-Rookie Team. Averaged 16 points and 6.1 rebounds while playing nearly 38 minutes a game. Came through with solid perfor mances in spite of the Lady Eagles finishing up below the .500 mark (8-17). Division ? Samantha Thompson: 5-4, Guard - Junior - Norfolk State All-CIAA Tournament and All-CIAA selection. Averaged 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds, ' 3.0 assists and 3.8 steals in 34 games. Helped the Spartanettes win the CIAA Tournament and advance to the Division II Final Four. Kellie Wyatt: 5-10, Guard - Junior - Clark/Atlanta Chosen All-SIAC and on the Jesse Brown Invitational All-Tournament team. One of the truly bright spots for the Lady Panthers who won only four of 26 games. Played at an inspired level in spite of playing the entire season with slight cartilage tear in her knee. In spite of it all, she averaged 17.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 25 steals in 24 games. Jackie Givens: 5-8, Forward - Senior - Fort Valley St. First team All-SIAC, first team Kodak All-American, Coca Cola Black College Player - of the Year, Naismith Women's Division II Player of the Year. Set NCAA single scoring record for Division II (67 points vs. Knoxville). Averaged 38.9 points, 12 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 4.2 steals. Lady Wildcats ended the year at 16-12. Ttacy Saunders: 5-10, Forward - Senior - Norfolk State NCAA Division II Player of the Year. First team Kodak All-America, CIAA Player of the Year, All-CIAA, CIAA All-Toumament, NCAA South Atlantic Regional MVP, NCAA Quarterfinal Co-MVP. A major reason behind NSU national championship run. Spar tanettes won the CIAA Tournament and advanced to the national semi-finals, where they ended the season ranked No. 4 in the final national polls. Averaged 21.2 points, 9.4 rebounds and 4.6 steals as the Spartanettes won 33 of 35 games. Maty M'Benque: 6-3, Center - Senior - Central St. (Ohio) The Dakar, Senegal native was NAI A District 22 Player of the Year, NAIA All-Ameri can, National Player of the Week, three-time District Player of the Week. During the sea son, she surpassed 2,000 points scored in a career and is the No. 2 all-time scorer for men and women. Averaged 22.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 23 steals and 2.0 blocked shots in 29 games.
