Slander line Scales, Helen Wilson Falls , Flonnie Thomas Anderson NWOA of W-S Installs President Mandenline Scales, immediate past president of National Women of Achievement, Inc. and national advisor for collegiate chapter, installed Flonnie Thomas Anderson as the second president of the Win ston-Salem - Chapter nwoA. Anderson replaces Helen Wilson Falls, who relinquished her duties as president of the local chapter where she has served for eleven years. Falls remains a member of the Winston-Salem Chapter and will continue to serve as the south east regional director, which includes North Carolina, South Car olina, Tennessee and Kentucky. Thomas, a charter member of the Winston-Salem Chapter, is I '? retired from the Winston Salem/Forsyth County School Sys tem after 33 years of teaching eng lish. theatre, and advance placement courses. She also taught philoso phy, black literature and theater at the Governor's School of North Carolina, the St. Andrew Presbyter ian College, and the Winston-Salem State University Kenan Program. She received degrees from West Virginia State College and A&T State University. She is presently teaching two classes at Forsyth Technical Col lege, Adult Basic Education and General Educatioa Development. Anderson presided over her second meeting of the chapter at the Carl Russell Community Center in March as the chapter began its Founder's Day activities. The speaker for the meeting was former Alder-woman achiever Virginia Newell. Founder's Day activities culminated with the chapter mem bers worshiping at Wentz Memorial United Church of Christ on Carver Road. Members jattending the activities were Anne Jenkins, Alice . R. Morgan Ameri can Legion Post #220 Auxiliary pre sented a Tiny Tots King, and Queen contest at the post home on M&ch 27 at 5 p.m. ? The 1994 Tar Hell Girls State Governor, Melaine Sellars brought -greeting from the department. She related some of her experiences while at girl state as in the an advan tages it offers in pursuing your carer. Valeria Rorie Bailev. 1987 Tar Hell Girls State citizen brought an inspiring message on what the true meaning of girls state is. It is a study of the city, state and national government. It serve as a citizenship training project for rising high school seniors who express a sin ce! e desiie tu attend the session. -It also provides you with many oppor tunities for learning, developing leadership skills, meeting new peo ple amf+ravrng-fufh ? - The contest was sponsored to help to defray the expenses of the young women attending the 1994 session. Sorority Hosts Skating Party at Skateland On Saturday, "March l1) the Chi '...Chi Chapter of Chi Ela Phi Inc. , Nursing Sorority hosted a skating party at Skateland LISA of Clem* mons for 57 young people from the Best Choice Center. The center is located at 1031 N. Highland Ave. After skating everyone enjoyed pizza at the Pizza Hut restaurant. The center has many activities for young people between the ages of 5 to 15 years with the focus of pre venting young people from becom ? ing involved. in drugs "The center is under the direc tion of Dorothy Graham Wheeler who is the executive director and Tim Douthit, the program director. Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority, Inc. is an organization of profes sional nurses and nursing students who arc dedicated to the purpose of elevating the place ot nursing through commitment founded in Washington. D C. in 1932 by Aliene Carrington Eweil. The local chapter, Chi Chi. was founded in Sept. 1978. ?According 4o ihe -philosophy -of 4he organization, the members believe that the best mechanism for provide j ing a broad range of services is through special projects and pro grams which maybe provided by the organization or in collaboration with other professional group. Zion Church Youth Fellowship will meet each Sunday at 1 1 a.m. beginning Easter Sunday and each Sunday thereafter. The purpose of the Fellowship is to interpret and instill into the youth, the importance of the Bible in their everyday lives. All youths, between the ages of 12-19 are invited to come and be a part of this meeting with other youths their age.
