IU I Ml- ( HRONK I J-; Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has unveiled a model program at colleges and univer sities nationwide where technologi cal skills will he "tuughi free of chaise lo residents in communities adjacent to the schools. The ambi tious program is pari of AKA's resolve to give African Americans '? " M'-m high-end skill sels so they will be more competiti\e in the work place and can improve their economic standing. This initia tive also parallels the economic vision of International President Barbara A. McKinzie. whose programmat ic theme, ESP. represents Economics Service and Partnerships. The official announcement was made on April 21 at North Carolina A&T State University, one of the eleven beta sites for the initiative. Those on hand for the announcement included McKinzie, Second Vice President Ramka Sanchez, who heads Alpha Kappa Alpha's undergraduates internationally: International Program Chairman Loann Honesty King; Ruby Bates Archie. Leaders of both major political parties focused their reactions on expressions of sympathy for the victims and their families, while avoiding comment on gun control. The National Rifle Association, the nation's lead ing gun lobby, expressed its condolences, but said. It is part of the sonority's International Program and is titled. "Undergraduate Signature Hackley Program: Economic Educational Advancement through Technology." Langsion University, the University of Toledo. North Carolina A & T, Florida A & M University, Jackson Stale University. Northwestern University. Texas Southern University, Vanderbilt University. Brown University, Stanford University and the University of the Virgin Islands will take part in the effort. According to McKinzie.the goal is to instill the value and importance of volunteering to assist in worthwhile causes in young adults. The overarching resolve is to enhance partici pants' skills and position them to obtain heller paying jobs.
