A Gift to Students ? . ^ Prince Hall Shriners from Sethos Temple No. 170 donated book bags and school supplies to students at Ashley Elementary Magnet School on Sept. 4. '^1 u t ? ? ; Interior design competitipn to raise money for Habitat for Humanity SPEC1A1 ro IHI CHRONICLE Eight design teams From across the Triad will test their design expertise dur ing the 4th annual ReStore Spaces event . on Friday, Oct, 23. The challenge, hosted by the Winston Salem Regional Association of REAL TORS. will benefit Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County ReStore, a retail outlet offering consumers bargains on donated building supplies, furniture and appli ances. All money raised goes to help Habitat Forsyth build more homes in our community. " ? The design teams will each be given a room type (bedroom. kitchen, utility, etc.) to design and are required to use only products found at Habitat ReStore. For the second year. Liberty Hardware is the title sponsor and has donated hardware products such as knobs, pulls and bath accessories to the "Liberty Vault." All designers must choose items from that vault and incorporate the product in some manner in their room. A winner will be selected based on the most creative use of the Liberty products. Other room awards include Judge's Choice and the People's * P\e^0<"c Splits Choice where guests are able to vote for their favorite room with their money. The room raising the most money wins the People's Choice Award. ReStore Spaces will be held from 6:30 - 1():(X) p.m. at the ReStore at 341 Witt St. Tickets are $20 per person and will include a tour of the "rooms," wine, beer, heavy hors d'oeuvres, a DJ and dancing. There will also be a special live perform ance in the dessert and coffee lounge this year from New Orleans jazz star Little Queenie. Tickets are on sale now at Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth's Web site www.habitatforsyth.org. n Delegates fill a sanctuary during a recent Assembly. CHANGE to hold Assembly SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE CHANGE will have its Fall 2009 Delegates Assembly on Sunday, Nov. 1 from 3-5 p.m. at Union Baptist Church. 1200 North Trade St. More than 1 ,000 people from every part of the community are expected to gather to support a new agenda for CHANGE. During the gathering, CHANGE will challenge candidates running for City Council to take actionem local issues related to economic development, healthcare and education. State officials will be on hand to respond to community concerns as well. CHANGE is a multi-racial, multi-faith, non-partisan community, organizing group comprised of 53 dues paying congregations, neighborhood associations and other interested groups. OES to hold Sorrow Program SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The 30th District Order of the Eastern Star Prince Hall * Affiliated will hold its Sorrow Program on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the Prince Hall Masonic Building at 1025 E. 14th Street. The program will be at 4 p.m. and feature guest speaker the Rev. Joshcline Jones Henry, an associate minister of Goler Memorial A. M. E. Zion Church and an active member of the Home Missions Society. Jones-Henry is an execu tive board member of the Winston-Salem District Christian Education Department of the A. M. E. Zion Church. She received her Associate Degree in Business and Finance in 1979 from Forsyth* > Technical CommunityCollege. She is currently an undergraduate student at Salem College. She is the wife of Andrew J. Henry, and the mother of two daughters, D'Andrea Y. Henry, a senior at North Carolina Central University, and Jazmin J. Henry, a junior at Fayetteville State University.
