Dance Party Attracts Hundreds BY TODD LUCK THE CHRONICLE Three hundred attendees line-danced the night away at Village Inn Conference Center in Clemmons on Saturday night. It was the fourth year that Encore, a local line dance team, hosted its popu lar hip hop line dance party. The event attracted dance teams from across the state and even from Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina and Georgia. Claudia Turner, 72, who started Encore after moving to Winston-Salem from Maryland, teaches line danc ing at three local recreation centers. She said such par ties are a natural part of the line dancing experince. "Once involved in the classes and you learn 10, 20 line dances, what are you going to do?" said Turner. "You have to have some place to go and show them what you know, and a line dance party is a great place Members of Encore and Jazzy Ladies perform. to do that." Line dancing involves a group of dancers doing syn chronized moves. Some of the most popular line dances include the "Cha Cha Slide" and "Cupid Shuffle." Turner says that line dancing is not only fun. but a great form of exercise that can be done by people of all ages. It's also a great way to meet people. Turner has traveled all over the country with her line dancing group, attending parties and workshops. Turner also performs with the Jazzy Ladies, Encore's sister group, which won a gold medal in line dancing at the Piedmont Plus Senior Games.
