Unfortunately, they missed the essence of the miracles they witnessed. We do the exact same thing! Jesus is not discounting the need for physical food. He points to the greater need for spiritual food. You see, if one gains the whole world and loses the soul, what profit is there? Jesus declares that He has God's seal of approval to do His work. The work that Jesus refers to is giving eternal life to all who believe. His followers' "work" is to be faithful and trusting in the One God sent!! It is clear that one cannot physically work to earn eternal life. They want a sign of the magnitude of manna from heaven to prove His identity. The work was never the individual's. Their eyes are opened just a little. Now, they request a never-ending supply of the bread. Jesus declares that He is the Bread of Life! This means that if they believe (work), their quest for spiritual fulfill ment will be satisfied through Jesus' work, not theirs! Application: All of us are on a journey back home. It has its ups, downs, bumps, detours and smooth places. Our responses to these situa tions indicate our beliefs. We can't really get back home without Jesus. It isn't about us as it is about Jesus and His work. We may get all that this life has to offer but if our spiritual needs are not met, it means very little! As the Bread of Life, Jesus sustains, protects and deliv ers us on this journey!! AMEN? AMEN! BUNDLE & SAVE!
