One of the stops made by CNN associate producer/ reporter Jordan Matter was at union Baptist Church to detail the church's "Get Out A Vote Revival," which fea tured the Rev. Dr. William Barber, the head of the N.C. NAACP, and Dr. John Mendez, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Dr. Sir Walter Mack Jr., the pastor of Union, escorted Malter to several local sites - including a barbershop, restau rant and early voting sites - so that the producer could interview local people. The piece aired on CNN on Nov. 5. Union Baptist held the Get Out & Vote Revival from Oct. j 3-4. In addition to speeches by Barber and Mendez, the "Pastors, Politicians and Community Leaders Luncheon" was held with guest speaker Mayor Allen Joines. The revival was a non-partisan program designed to encourage individuals to exercise their right to vote and to pro vide information to help voters make knowledgeable deci sions. The soul-stir ring testimoni al song is the debut single from the disc, "Bless the House," the seventh project from Kurt Carr & The Kurt n n ? uarr dingers. Fans selected "I've Seen Him Do It" as the first single. In October, Verity Gospel Music Group ran an online poll that allowed fans to vote for either "I've Seen Him Do It" or "Bless This House" as the first single. "I think this song will touch and inspire believers everywhere because every believer has seen God do mirac ulous things," says Carr. "Bless the House" is a double disc CD that the artist says "is a continuum of who I am." It will hit stores on Jan. 22, 2013. "I believe I've come into what my niche and what my purpose is," says Carr. "And that is to make music that edifies the body and blesses the church of Jesus Christ." Before the CD's release, on Jan. 19, Carr will receive the James Cleveland Lifetime Achievement Award at the 28th Annual Stellar Awards. Carr says that this is an espe cially humbling honor. Robinson was the guest speaker at a Nov. 17 program held by the Women's Ministry Department of the Pine Forge Academy Seventh-day Adventist Church of Pine Forge, Penn. The theme of the program was "Intimacy With Jesus=Key To Loving Others," and Robinson, emphasizing Galatians 5:14 and 15, -1 A <1 spoae anoui uic importance of the power of a strong sis terhood. Pine Forge Academy is the sec ond-oldest African American boarding academy and is one of four remaining African-American boarding schools. The campus is situated on 575 acres of land that was donated to the founders of the school by the tamuy or Thomas Rutter, who was an abolitionist in the 1700s. Robinson is the creator of Patmos Greeting Cards, which utilizes language that encourages and uplifts those who are incarcerated. The line of cards is especially popular with church prison ministry programs. Robinson has also created a line of cards that voices the hurt and anger of those who are survivors of sexual abuse, molestation and domestic violence and for the family members and friends of those with HIV/AIDS. As the keynote presenter, Robinson has travelled across the nation and overseas, speak ing to people of various denominations. She also conducts marriage seminars, often with her husband, Ted Odell Robinson. That intangible element that gives ^ mPpP^pers on 15 Holy Trinity hosts special events SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE The last week in October was a busy one at Holy Trinity Full Gospel Fellowship Center. "Hallelujah Night," the church's Youth Department annual fall festival, was held on Oct. 31. Kids enjoyed games, face-painting, food, fun and more. On a more serious nuie, minister Olympeia Howell led young people in a dis cussion about bullying. A few days before the festival, on Oct. 27, the church's Married Couples Ministry held a fellowship that was facilitated by Deacon Rick Howell and Minster Howell. The attending couples enjoyed a three-corded strand activity which was based on Ecclesiastes 4:12, which states, "Though one may oe overpowered, two can aerend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." The couples were encouraged to make time for each other, even while raising children and hectic schedules. They also were encouraged to learn that when dis agreements arise, to fight fair, not bring up past arguments, concentrate on the sit uation at hand, watch the tone of their voice, listen to each other and agree to dis agree, if necessary.
