SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs are part
nering with Krispy Kreme and Mattress Firm for the
2014 "Stuff the Bus" campaign to collect school sup
plies. The goal is to help ease the financial pressures
that many Boys & Girls Club members' parents are
experiencing by providing critical school supplies that
will help their children begin the school year on a pos
itive note.
The community is being asked to help by dropping
on new school supplies at any
Krispy Kreme or Mattress Firm
location in the Piedmont
Triad. The "Stuff the Bus" cam
paign kicked off on Friday, Aug.
1.
"We see the need every day
as families come to The
Salvation Army for help," said
Major James Allison, Area
Commander for The Salvation
Army of Winston-Salem. "It is
only then safe to assume that if
parents are unable to pay their rent or utilities that
school supplies will be tough to buy. Our hope with
the 'Stuff the Bus' campaign is not only to help lessen
the financial burden for families, but also give kids the
confidence they need to succeed."
To encourage people to donate, Krispy Kreme and
Mattress Firm are offering added incentives.
Krispy Kreme will give out a free original glazed
doughnut for a donated item like a pack of pencils,
paper or crayons; and a free dozen of original glazed
doughnuts for the donation of a backpack or more.
Donations can be dropped off at any Triad-area Krispy
Kreme through Aug. 22. Mattress Firm is offering
$50 off any purchase with the donation of a bag of
school supplies. Donations can be dropped off at any
Triad-area Mattress Firm through Sept. 1.
School supplies of all types are needed, including
notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, scissors, hand sani
tizer and backpacks. The supplies will be given to The
Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club Members whose
families are having a tough time purchasing supplies
in the current economy.
