Ccinmencensent Exorcises cf Warrentcn High School. One of the very best and most highly appreciated aud largely attended com mencements of tho VV. H. School has just past. Last Sunday, June 2nd., the annual sermon was preached in the Methodist church by Rev. N. M. Watson, of Chapel Ilill. . Mr. Watson preached an exceedingly appropriate sermon from 1st. Kings 19-13. His theme- was, "Purpose" Have a purpose in life. Mr. Watson's sermon was delivered to an immense audience who were greatly editied by his easy delivery and bril liant language of Gospel truths. Monday night, Juno 3rd. at 8:30 o'clock tho younger boys and girls of the school held the boards. At this concert the large, handsome auditorium was full to overflowing, a large number not being able to get inside. We will not make special mention of any for f eur of - oflVudiiir souio who may not think as we, but the little boys and girls did spendidly and attested the ex cellency of the training received from their teachers, aud we wish to say that we are. of the opiuion that the little folks won the day . Immediately followed a vocal quartett, "Come where tho lilies bloom" rendered by Miss Ethel Allen, saprano. Mrs. E. J. Freeman. alto, Rev. C. N. Wharton, tenor, and Mr. W. R. Bovd. bass, with Miss Virginia Graham at the piano. lhis was par excellence. Then Prof. Graham follow ed naming the students who had gained distinction during the session. The list was a largo one, aud we wish we had tho space to give their names and grades, but we cannot. Those entitled to certificates of proficiency and thor oughly prepared to enter tne colleges were Miss Mary Hunter, Masters Gaston Foote and Norwood Boyd. Before prof. Graham took his seat he very handsomely introduced the oiator of tho day Mr. Tasker Polk, who d literary address. Our long since learned that when it is announced that our ow:i Tasker Polk is to deliver an address that v;e are going to hear something very good. No one was disappointed this time. Mr. Polk's address was ex celient. His theme, (not a subject) was school bov davs and some lessons to be learned, warnings given. Mr. Polk was ornate, charming, delightful, uplifting. The writer of this heaida lady say she felt lifted away up yonder by hearing this gifted brilliant son of Warren. We wiiih we had spaco to publish the speech in full, but we cannot. A spelling match followed and it was c1,nce splendid. The nay those boys and girls spelled made us ashamed of the spelling constantly appearing in Tun Record. Tnpsilnv ni"ht. The larger boys and girls held the boards The procrrammo was a most excellent L -J cue and most excellently executed The recitations, orations, dialogues, music and drills were delightful. We shall not make any sp jeial mentions- however much wo are tempted to do so, but we will be pardoned for saying that the drills by the beautiful young ladu-3 aud handsome gentlemen, under that most excellent calisthenic instructress, Mrs. C. C. Hunter, was superb and f-iam'nnh'd the audience which was simply enoimcns. The session of this fine school, just closed, has been a very prosperous one, and good work has been done.
