Preparations are being made to gt-t material for the building for tho War renton Furniture Co. In a few days material will be on the ground for the erection cf tho building. Hall, who left here two ysara ago as a volunteer in the U. 8. Army for tho Philippine Islands re turned last Tuesday sound and all right. Ll. looks well but says he has enough '4 tho army. Judge C. A. Cook came home last Saturday. The Supreme Court ad journed for the summer last Friday. Judge Cook and lady expect to take an extended trip through the South dur ing the summer vacation of tho Supreme court. Mr. W. S. Whedon, Cashier of the First National Bank of Winterset, Iowa, in a roceut letter gives some experience with a carpenter in his employ, that Will bo of value to other mechanics. He says: "I had a carpenter working for mo who was obliged to stop work for several days on account of being troubled with diarrhoea. I mentioned to him that I had been similarly troubled and that Chamberlain's Colic, Cholera and Diarrhoea Remedy had cured me. Egerton, of Macon, ac companied by Mrs. Tyler, nee Miss Pearl Jenkius, of Scotland Neck, spent last Tuesday night in town. Mr. Blount P. Pitchford has resigned his position with D, F. Crinkley and expects to leave in a few days to make his home in Oklahoma. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis B. Collins have left ua to be with their daughtsr, Mrs. B. T. Wnrtmau, of South Hill, Va. Our best wishes go with them. Miss Emma Palmer, of Hookerton, is visiting relatives in town. She and Miss Sallie Palmer, of Churchill, ex pect to take u trip to the Pan-American Exposition next week. Mr. and Mr. W. L. Baxter, of Ridge way, were in town yesterday. Mr. Baxter reports the berry crop a large one, and shipments to begin to-day, Mr. W. C. Y. Parker, of New York, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Ballard and daughter, Miss Elenor, of Franklinton, N.C., were here this week to attend the burial of Mr. Jacob Parser, The long looked for school laws of 1P01 nro to hand at last, and those en titled to copies can get them by apply ing at this offce. Mr. Parker had a fall several months ago that resulted in a fractured ri&t from which he suffered very much, but he continued to get about, and on Mon day morning was down the btreets greeting his friends ass usual. On June 10th. 1901, a meeting was held m the Court House at 4:30 o'clock p. m. for the purpose of organizing a Base Ball Club. Mr. H. A. Boyd was made chairman cf the meeting and Gaston Foote, secretary. The nest business was the election of a captain for the team. Mr. G. A. Foote H-as nominated, but withdrew his name, at the same time nominating Mr. Will A. Graham.
