Trash Problem
Lillington’s Business and Pro
fessional Women’s Club Monday
night adopted a resolution calling
upon the town board to require
merchants who burn trash on va
cant lots to use city-incinerators
for that purpose and where no in
cinerators are available to request
that the town them.
The resolution cited particularly
the pile of trash on the vacant lot
next to thp Education Building
which is on the main entrance to
the town and directly opposite the
courthouse. Trash left unburned
frequently blows down the steep
embankment and creates a "litter
ed appearance” on our main high
way the resolution said.
Miss Lois Byrd introduced the
resolution which was seconded by
Miss Betsy Ross and adopted with
out a dissenting vote. Miss Ade
laide Shaw, club president. wj)l con.
vey the resolution to the town
board.
The club meeting in regular ses
sion at the Community Center at
its regular monthly session heard
a program presented by the mem
bership chairman. Miss Mabel Als
ton. Miss Alston cited the advan
tages of membership in a federa
tion which is the largest in the
world devoted to the interests of
the employed and professional wo
man. At the close of her talk sh
presented the name of Miss Glad,;;
Stewart of Buie’s Creek as a pros-1
pective member. The club voted
approval.
Prior to the meeting refresh
ments of cookies and spiced tea
were served by the hostesses. Mrs.
