Mr. Thomas And Miss Stewart Wed Sunday Miss Cleta Nell Stewart and John Robert Thomas were united in marriage in a candleight cere mony solemnbed Sunday, June 16, at 8 o k at Spring Hill Methodist church. The Kiev bride, officiated using the double ring ritual. The bride is a graduated from Boone Trail high school and for the past year attended Greens boro college. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Thomas of Route 3, Lillington. He is also a graduate of Boone Trail high school and is now engaged in farming. For the ceremony, nuptial mu sic was presented by Mrs. Paul Johnson, pianist, and Roger Thomas, brother of the bride groom, soloist. Mr. Thomas sang “The Sweetest Story Ever Told”, and “Whither Thou Goest” and as the benediction, “Seal Us Oh. Holy Spirit.” The wedding was directed by Mrs. Ralph Hales. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore a lovely bal lerina-length gown of snowy white chiffon over net and satin. It was fashioned with a draped off-the shoulder neckline, ending in a V with two flowing panels in the back that reached the hemline. Her headdress was a summer white straw band attached to a face veil. She carried a white prayer book covered with a pur ple-throated orchid with flowing white satin streamers. Miss Shirley Stewart, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Her dress was of pink nylon mar quisette , styled with a bateau neckline dipping into a V in the back. A white nylon panel attached to a wide cummerbund of the same material was worn over the dress. She wore a headband of spring daisies and carried a nosegay of spring daisies, carna tions and chrysanthemums show ered with satin streamers. Miss Elaine Nordan, friend of the couple, and Miss Edith Stew art, sister of the bride, were bridesmaids. Linda Salmon and Pat Faulk nieces of the bride, were junior bridesmaids and flower girl, respectively. All wore dresses styled similar to that of the honor attendant. Attending the bridegroom as best man was Donald O'Quinn Ushers were Claborn Holder and J. D. Patterson. Honorary bridesmaids wers Miss Sara Smith Was Married Sunday Afternoon In a ceremony Sunday at the ' First Baptist Church, Miss Sara Frances Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Maclf Smith. Route 1, Varina, became the bride of Clyde Atticus Massey Jr. The ceremony was performed by the Dr. Broadus E. Jones. The bridegroom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Massey, 610 N. Bloodworth St., had as his best man his broth er. Charles Grey Massey. A program of music was ren dered by Dr. Harry Cooper, or ganist, and Joseph Bouchard, so loist. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, W. Alton Smith, wore a ballerina-lenght dress of Chantilly lace with a scoop neck line outlined with seed pearls. Her two-tiered veil of illusion was attached to a bandeau of lace and she carried a white Bible with white orchids and stephanotis. Mrs. Mills Stephens of Wendell, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. She wore a ballerina length drtss of pink embroidered organdy and carried a bouquet of mixed flowers. Her bandeau matched her dress. Ushers were Dr. Marion Nichol- | son and M. E. Valentine of Ra. leigh. Following the ceremony, the couple received the church ves tibule. The bride attended Hardbtir ger’s Secretarial and Business College and is employed here. The bridegroom is a graduate of Wake Forest College and Hard barger’s Secretarial and Business College. He also attended Strte College and is employed with the eight friends of the couple, Anne Mason, Leona Bullard, Janie Mason, Jennie Patterson. Following the wedding the cou ple received in the vestibule of the church. For traveling the bride wore an avocada green dress with white acoesories and the orchid from her prayer book. After a wedding trip to points in western North Carolina, the couple will make their home near Mainers. State Security Commission. For travel, the bride chose a light-blue dress with white acces sories and an orchid. Upon returning from their wed ding. the couple will be at home at 702 W. Morgan St. Ellis Barbours Entertain After Rehearsal Friday Miss Ella Dean Johnson and Mr. Forest Maxwell were enter tained by Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Bar bour at their home in Dunn on Friday evening following the wed ding rehearsal. The guests were recieved into the living room by Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Barbour. The entrance hall held a beau tiful arrangement of salmon pink gladiolls in a brass urn. The pink and white color scheme was bea utifully carried out in living and dining rooms. Mixed white and pink flowers were used also in the den. The dinning table was covered with a white outwork of roses anl held a centerpiece of roses and babvbreath and greenery with candlebra holding pink candles that graced either end of tht table. Mrs. Forest C. Maxwell, mother of the groom poured lime punch and Mrs. E. C. Johnson Sr. serv ed the 3 tier wedding cake top ped by a miniture bride and groom. Nuts and mints were also served. Forty-five guests, which included the bridal party and out of town guest attended BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Suitt-Dupree Wedding Is Held In Angier Sunday In a ceremony Sunday af ternoon at the Angler Baptist Church, Miss Betty Jo Dupree became the bride of Floyd Leon ard Suitt Jr. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Dupree, and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Suitt, all of An gier. The Rev. G. Van Stephens of ficiated, assisted by the Rev. E. I^ewis Beal. Music was present ed by Miss Gela Earp. pianist and Miss LaRue Matthews, solo ist. Given in marriage by her cousin, Ed Dupree of Elon, the bride wore a gown of hand-clip ped Chantilly lace Over satin. Her two-tiered fingertip v e i 1 of French illusion was attached to a pill - box of simulated pearls and iridescent sequins on mat ching lace. She carried a white prayer book topped with a white orchid. The matron of honor was Mrs. Dan Honeycutt of Angier, sister of the bride. She wore a full length dress of cloud blue chry stallette, and a mlatcjhing ban deau trimmed with simulated pearls with circular veil. She carried a basket of white carna tions. Bridesmaids were Miss Mar garet Woods of Virginia, Miss Frances Owen, Mrs. Jackie Aus tin, cousin of the bridegroom, and Miss Peggy Smith, all of Angier. Their dresses, hats and flowers were like that of the matron of honor. Miss Joy Aiken, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Aiken, was flower girl. The father of the bridegroom, was best man. Ushers were Dan Honeycutt, brother-in-law of the bride, Lacy Honeycutt, Neil Stephenson, and Graham Wim berly, all of Angier. Following the ceremony, the bride's parents entertained at a reception at their home. For traveling, Mrs. Suitt chang ed to a white linen sheath dress with pink ana white accessories. The bride completed two years at East Carolina College. The bridegroom was graduated from Angier High School, and is now employed as an engineer with the State Highway Commission. After a wedding trip to the mountains, the couple will make their hone irt Winton-Salem. Cake-Cutting Is Held For Wedding Party Following the rehearsal for the Williford-Byrd wedding Saturday evening, Miss Vivian Glover was hostess at a cake cutting at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carlye Byrd. Miss Carla Byrd was wed to Mr. Pat Willi ford on Sunday afternoon at the Bunnlevel Presbyterian Church. A theme of pink and white was used in the dining room and car ried out in adjoining rooms by the use of flowers. The table, covered in a pink cloth, was centered with white gladioli flanked by silver candelabra and pink tapers. The three tiered white wedding cake was served by Mrs. Bill Fister after the first slice had been cut by the bridal pair. Miss Evelyn Williford presided at the punch bowl. Mints and nuts were also served to the family, bridal party and friends. Miss Cindy Byrd as sisted the hostess. Mrs. J. K. Williford entertained Miss Carla Byrd at a luncheon on Saturday June 22 at Johnson’s Restaurant in Dunn. The honoree was presented a gift of china And a corsage of red roses by her hos tess. Around fifteen guests were present. AUGUST WEDDING Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Ennis of Coats, announce the engagement of' their daughter Miss Carolyn Sue Ennis to Charles Benner, son of Mr. and Mrs. James J. Johnson-Maxwell Wedding Party Reception Held Immediately following the wed ding in the First Baptist Church In Erwin on Saturday, Mr. and Mrs E. C. Johnson, parents of the bride entertained at a reception in the church parlor. An arrangement of gladioli m a silver urn was used on the mantle and a silver candelabra with an anniversity candle illuminated a portrain of the bride on the bride’s register. The bridal table was cov ered with an imported cutwork cloth. The five branched silver can delabra with burning candles hold ing pom poms in epergenettes and the three tier wedding cake graced one end of the lovely table with the silver punch bowl at the othr. Quests were greeted at the door by Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Barbour and were introduced to the receiving line by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tho mas. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Davis directed to the bride's register over which Mr. and Mrs. Glendale Ste phenson presided. Miss Lena Mc Neil directed guests to the liable. Miss Lula Shepard of Laurinburg poured punch, and Miss Cleo Mur ry of Raleigh served the cake, af ter the traditional first slice had been cut. Nite Mrs. Jeff Denny was hostess to the Elizabeth Hale Circle of the First Baptist Church last evening in her home. Lavender dahlias and petunias were arranged on the mantle very attractively. Mrs. Jim Farthing, presided at the meeting in the absence of the leader Mrs. William Pope. She opened the meeting with prayer and turned the program over to Mrs. Herman Green who taught the first two chapters of the mis sion study book Sacrifice and Song. During the business session the minutes were read and approved and various other committees ga ve their reports. The hostess served lime sodas, brownies and coconut macroons to Mrs. Jim Farthing, J^., Mrs. Le wis Godwin, Mrs. Hank Currin, Mrs. Herman Green, Mrs. Curtis Ennis, Mrs. Luther Turner and Mrs. Charles Skinner, president of the WMU was the guest. TO OLIVIA Mrs. Minnie Warren is spending this week in Olivia, N. C., with Mr. and Mrs. David Graham. Mrs. Graham is Mrs. Warren’s daugh ter. IN DUBLIN Mrs. A. O.
