C. 9-16,23,30,7 Riot Occurs When Beatles Perform In Cleveland CLEVELAND (UPP — The Beatles have been here and gone, but the memory of their Tuesday visit lingers on - especially in the minds of teen-agers and police. The British rock and rollers had a real show-stopper Tuesday night — police temporarily halted the Public Hall performance when a near riot occurred among the 10, 000 screaming teen-aged fans in the audience. The shaggy-haired foursome left Cleveland immediately after the show to do for New Orleans what they have done for all the other cities the yhave visited on their current North American tour. Clpvriand police gave a loud sign of reTlelf at the Beatles’ leaving. Riiigo, John, Paul and George had barely gotten stained with their show when a wave of teen agers surged through barricades in front of the marshmallow and con fetti - littered stage. While police men struggled to contain the Inva sion, Inspector Michael Blackwell called a halt to the performance. “The show's over," he an nounced to the loudly protesting fans who were stunned by Black well’s announcement. But minutes later, after a hur ried conference between the in spector and Derek Uaylor, ithe Beatles’ tour manager, the mop headed quartet resumed to the de light of the 10,000 Taylor, who said it was the first time the Beatles had encountered such a situation, warned that “one more incident like this and the show is over.” A few girls were trampled in the attempted storming of the Beatles nest, but they were not seriously hurt.
