Hasebroock says of the forthcoming 24th observ ance of National Bible Week, October 19th through 25th: "This is a day and age of wonders, yet fears be set us on all sides. We need to create public opinion by speaking, writ ing, or whatever medium is possible, in calling at tention to the fact that Bible reading must begin in the home. We know that public opinion ultimately crystallizes into a decision and'action. - "St. Paul, at Mars Hill, told the Athenian philoso phers of his day that the secret of life was commu nication with a force which he described as ‘In Him we live, and move, and have our being.’ I firmly believe that reading the Bible, hot only during Na tional Bible Week, but every day of every week, Mrs. Wm. H. Hasebroock will make us aware of the power for good that lies in the word of God.” National Bible Week is sponsored by the Laymen’s National Committee, Inc. 1Bryant, Mrs. Jimmy Bryant, Mrs. Leon Kittrell, Jr.. Whereas our hearts are filled I with grief as we note her vacant | seat in the North, but without the strength from above, it would seem unbearable: yet we believe in the resurrection that “whoever livith and believith in me shall never die" Where as she has come to the end, may we rot have fears and doubts, but look up to the stars and ask for divine guidance to lead us to the New Jerusalem, a city not made with hands. May the Gclden link from the chain that is broken be found in place, whole and perfect, when we shall have finished our service here Now therefore be it resolved that we spread upon the records of our Chapter these resolutions, that we .send to the members of her fam You're really sold on First-Citizens, aren't you? __rt Sure am. And have been ever since I moved my chocking account here. These people give the best service in town. And they really appreciate my business. mum iwuim ‘Ik k Letter To The Editor: ro THE EDITOR: Come November we are called upon to make a decision between 2 pt 4 men. each different, who talk much but have not given or ;trc sented or uttered mu^h of a fixed, basic or definite program or policy for the solution of present or fu ture problems at home or abroad It is a sort of popularity contest and we must take them with faith and hope that perhaps things will work out for the best. To many it seems that here is no much in the way of an ECHO or CHOICE end to others any kind of change could not be worse, and this at a time when the world is in a Revolu tion of change and uncertainty and a fixed, basic, definite and essen t'al program and policy seems ne cessary everywhere to fit today and tomorrow. The whole world is, in a Mess due in a large mea sure to the failure of leadership and proper planning. Politicnna, writers and news me dia say mucn aoout peace, exper. ience, responsibility which are more myths and prosperity wiped out by inflation, but offer us little or nothing in the way of a debate or o.scussion of any solution of the many and varied problems we face everywhere. We are left with a 'sort of solution by trial atd error. [It seems that for some 30 years we ihave been following false prophets | pharisees or hypocrites, and we I are reaping the harvest: Examples i the farm programs and some 40 j welfare agencies or bureaus, with | the result that a war on poverty is ! immediately necessary, along with ; P inford’s 4 year war in behalf of ! quality education Uncertain, vaci | la ting and changing leadership has i teen the order of the day and i even now we have no firm, fixed, j definite, basic, and certain policy j or program, with the result that ! we are fast reaching the whirlwind of indecision from the day to day handling of the situations as they appear. Thus the bomb and space age caught us unprepared and will likely overwhelm us in the matter of expense and management and centred, much of which is beya»d '‘infection and control, and may de stroy or exhaust us ultimately Our button pushing talk reminds us of the play “Who Has The But ton" We have long since passed the time of one man pushing the but ton, since Russia and France and now Chkia all have buttons which they can push at their will. It is worth mentioning that one man bvtton pushing is freightening and seems to give one man the power to “Hold The Whole in His Hands” Further our own button pushing is more or less a delaying or rear ruard. We have more or less prac ticed co-existence accommodation and trading w’th the enemv or com oetitor, in the hope that the evil nay will be postponed or fade a <vcy While the USA and Russia had thp Monopoly on Bombs and Space, each have sought by favors, loans and money as sole competitors to dominate, direct and control the whole world and at times as a ■ ort of blackmail With USA and Russia in control it was a sort of ••st race but., with the addition of France and China it has become a nightmare. Some new way must ne found that nations may live in oeace and harmony and money and blackmail and force is not the way The solution more or less lies in the ream of spiritual values and love and respect The 4 men offer us little more ’han platitudes, multiple promises, name calling, criticism, rodicule, character, moralty principle, hate, fear, many scandals, big govern ment, debt, deficits, more welfare, higher wages and prices, more pro grams, etc We make war on pover y and talk about quality education, but say little or nothing about gambling, whiskey crime Or welfare apon each of which we spend more ban we do on education. Let me remind vou of a story that Gov. Vance often told about _ man drunk riding down the mountain with a run away team, crying out to all and sundry to head them off Walter Lee Johnson Too Late To tiassify FOR SALE: 1962 Taylor mobile come, 10x55 .feet Three bedroom®, bath and a half. $200 from equity >nd take up payments Call 892 8546 10-27-2p liy a copy, and that a copy be sent to both Newspapers.
