The present sanctuary has just been air-conditioned and redecor ated at a cost of about $7,000 and is one of the prettiest church sanc tuaries in the area. “The big problem." as one mem ber of the committee put it, “is whether the present building can be removed and rebuilt in such a way that members will be satis fied with it.” Members of the committee will report to the congregation on Sun I day the various estimates on all plans. Asked how many tons would be involved in the move, if it is under taken, County Commissioner Jack i?lrock. longtime leader of the chlurch, replied, “Goodness knows. There’s iyj telling. Maybe a hun dred tons or even several hundred tons." He said nobody had even dare make an estimate. The building-mover told the com mittee, however, that he has moved church buildings in the past and is ready and able to move this one. Final decision, of course, is up i to the membership. A. R. Marley is chairman of the church board and Kerwood Ses soms is chairman of the building committee. Other members of the committee are: M. O. West. Cur tis Sessoms. Hendry White, Mrs. Gordon Ennis, Mrs. Emma Lee West. Clyde Crawford. Thurman Gaster, Jack Crawford, Jack Brock, and Jack Baggett. Averasboro various areas of the county. Ap pointment of finance chairman in each area will be made shortlv. The amounts ranged from $2,00C from Dunn to $250.00 each from Coats and Buie’s Creek. Other tentative area quotas were Lillington $1,000; Erwin. $1,000: Angier $500 and Boone Trail and Western Harnett $500. The county commissioners have already allocated $500 to the ob servance. The program would call for an actual enactment of the Averas boro Battle, a dance with a “name” band in a tobacco warehouse and a special private dance at Chicora Country club, an address bv Gov ernor Bussell of South Carolina, dedication of a South Carolina marker on the Averasboro battle field. and publication of a historical n*wrram of the observance with a history of the famed Civil War battle in it. Active in public affairs, he served for about 20 years as a member of Dunn’s voluntetr fire depart ment, held the post of Lieutenant in the department and at the time of his death was an honorary mem. ber of the local fire-fighting force and the North Carolina Firemen's Association. At the time he en tered the service, he was Asst. Chief of the fire dept. He was a member of the Divine Street Methodist Church, a former mem. ber of the Dunn Lions Club and had been active in other organi zations here throughout the years. He married the former Miss Geraldine (Jerry) Daniels of Wake Forest, a registered nurse on the staff of Dr. J. Ralph Johnson here for years. Surviving are his mother; his wife; one daughter, Miss Jean Cromartie, a senior at Dunn High School; one brother, Ravmend L. Ciomartie, Jr.; and one sister, Mrs. W. Earl Jones, all of Dunn. Pallbearers will be Ed Tart, Howard Jackson, Billy Parrish, Charles Wade, Bob Dickey, Mar vin Johnson, Cooper Jackson, Jake Andrews and Robie Porter. Sharon with pageants, and the master of ceremonies will be Larry Bumgard ner. who is associated with Radio Station W. C. K. B. in Dunn. The entertainment committee is com oosed of Mrs. Iris Vann, Mrs. Be verly Hall. Cleo Summerlin, and Sammy Reynolds and the talent urogram is under the guidance of Mrs. Carolyn Anderson and Donna Hill. The pageant will feature Sharon cinch, the present Miss North Car lina and be judged bv Mrs. Gama iel Hueenschmidt. Mr. and Mrs. ,ewis Brvan. Morgan was strictly personal and that so far as he knew the race between him and Alford does not involve any Democratic party factional fights. “I like to think that I have sup port from all sections of the State and all wings of the party,” said Morgan. He discounted the effect of the Lake association whatever in the race. Morgan said that he had waged an active campaign for the post, soliciting support personally from all incoming senators by personal calls and by letters. Morgan said that he had heard from the major ity of the Senators and was ‘‘high ly pleased with the reactions I have received.” Morgan is emphasizing his long familiarity with Senate procedure and his skill in parliamentary pro cedure. The Lillington attorney is known as one of the best public speakers in the State. His friends note that his clear diction and oleasant manner will certainly do no harm to an aspirant for this post. Asked directly if his bid for pre sident pro-tem were a stepping stone to another and more import ant political post in the future. Ads Pay Kenly Han Hilrt In Accident The Rev. John Wray Slye of Route 1, Kenly, is in Betsy John son Hospital suffering from in juries received in a two-car col lision yesterday morning )aboi*t 9:15. The accident occurred, at the traffic signal in Coats when a 1964 Ford operated by Mrs. Lee Dutch of Wilmington rammed the left rear of Rev. Slye’s Rambler. The impact oaused the Rambler to make a complete turn in the road and threw the minister about ten feet into a ditch. He was headed west on Highjte* 27 towards Buies Creek. The Ford was traveling north on Highway 55.. Coats Police Chief. Stedman Ray, said no charges have been prelerred as yet. Passengers in the Ford includ ed Mrs. Dutch’s four-year-old daughter, Mary Frances, and her mother Mrs. Addie Hardwell, all cf Wilmington. They were treated at the local hospital and released.
