THE WINNAH - Linda Harrison presents Herbert Ingram of the Sensationalaires their “first place" trophy Photo by Jim Black Sensationalaires Win “Sing-Off First Prize By Jim Black Post Feature Writer I The Metrolina Singers spon sored a sing-off Sunday and 11 groups from North Carolina were invited. The show called the “Golden Cup Singing Award” was held at the McCroery Branch YMCA and was performed before a relatively large Sun day crowd. The Metrolina Singers, Diane Kirkpatrick, Delores Brace and Linda Harrison, expressed disappointment that only six of the 11 groups showed up but added that the show was still a big hit. The groups that performed from Charlotte were the stars of Harmony, The Gospel Southemaires, The Happy Landers and The Monarchs. The Kirkpatrick brothers of Matthews and the Sensation , alaires of Lexington rounded out the show. Master of Cere monies was the renowned Rev. Dr. R. B. Phifer, pastor of the “Late" What’s Happen ing Now Baptist Church. The singing was first rate and the task of picking a winner was supposed to be up to a few local D. J.’s, but because of previous committ ments they bowed out and the Metrolina Singers became in stant judges. Their choices pleased the audience as proven by the applause. Tommy Truesdale of the Happy Landers recei ved a plaque for the groups third place finish. A second place trophy was received by Lee Cathcart for the Stars of Harmony. The first place tro phy was presented to Herbert Ingram for the Sensation alaires of Lexington for their rythmic notes, shouts and pro fessional ability to make the crowd stand up and shout. l. , .t !• National Baptist Group To Hear Rev.
