Wilson Heights Sing ers Songfest A Great Success By Jim Black Post Feature Writer A Songfest was used last weekend by the Wilson Heights Gospel Singers to celebrate their first anniver sary. The Singers, from Wilson Heights Church of God, located at 2137 B, Avenue, figured a songest would be very practical. They received so many invitations from other churches to sing at var ious programs throughout the year, that they are hardly at home.r They sing at their own church on second and fourth Sundays. This past year they made at least 40 trips to other churches. According to their President Priscilla Threatt, they received quite a few more invitations than they can accept. So with their first anniversary coming up they decided to do something practical. So Mrs. Threatt, Director Carey Maxwell, and Secretary Mildred Hall in vited a number of Churches from Charlotte and Concord. The Rev. Odell Beasley said the outcome was very good and that a lot of work went into seeing that the songfest was a success. Well it was. A total of 22 groups participated and about 900 people attended the two-day program which brought in $275 to the singers’ treasury.
