Donald L. Roberts • New vice president API Appoints Two Vice Presidents .Amalgamated Publishers Inc. has announced the appointments to Vice Presi dent of Donald L Roberts, general manager and Norman W. Powell, general sales manager The vice presidents are new executive positions with the company, according to John H. Sengstacke. president, who made the announcement. Amalgamated Publishers is the national advertising re presentative for 80 Black newspapers across the coun try, is headquartered in New York City, with branch offices in Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit. Donald Roberts, with the company for 17 years, was formerly business manager, before being general manager in 1966. A graduate of West Virginia State College with a degree in accounting, he interrupted his studies to serve with the Army as 1st Lt. in Korea, then re turned to Seton Hall Univer ciltr fr\r nnct -__ in mathematics, statistics and advanced accounting. Alter 2 years as an Internal Revenue Agent in Baltimore, he came to Amalgamated Publishers in 1958. He is a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, subscribing life member, NAACP and first vice presi dent of the Friendly Fuld Neighborhood House in Ne wark, NJ. His hobbies are woodwork, flying, tennisjmd swimming. Mr. Roberts and his wife, Margaret Ann, a Newark Plan Project Coordi- • nator at W. Kinney Jr. High School, live in Rahway, N. J. and have one daughter. Tracy. Norman W. Powell has been with Amalgamated Publish ers as general sales manager since 1966 He is responsible for all sales operations and directs the sales staffs and all field associates. He was formerly national field assistant to the vice president-sales manager of Seagram Distillers. Before entering the distilled spirits industry, he was associated with the Afro-American news papers in both Washington, D C. and Newark, N J., serving the latter as advertising man ager. Mr. Powell attended Howard University and New York University. He is an avid golfer and bridge enthusiast. He and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Somerset, New Jersey and operate a boutique there. They have four children: Sedgewick, an account execu tive with API; Norman Jr., formerly with the Peaae Corps, now studying for a Ph.D. at American Univer sity; and two married daugh ters, Mrs. Noreen Balawu, who teaches in East Orange, N. J. and Mrs. Candy Georg iana, now in her senior year of Fashion Design at F I T. in New York.
