Powell, Commis sioner of Motor Vehicles. Powell announced today that a new law, effective January X, 1976, provides that a third or subsequent PJC received within a five-year period constitutes a final con viction and all PJC's must be reported by the courts to the North Carolina Division of. Motor Vehicles. *■ *■ The new law which applies to all Prayers for Judgment Continued in traffic cases which are entered after January 1, 1976 was enacted by the 1975 General Assembly. Commissioner Powell said, “This law can greatly aid our efforts in traffic safety. Prior to the passage of this Act, a sizeable number of drivers were avoiding convictons on their records by obtaining a PJC and thus preventing the Division of Motor Vehicles from taking any action to im prove their driving habits or suspending their driver’s license. This former loophole of the law (PJC) allowed cer tain drivers to possibly con tinue their bad driving habits while others who did not re ceive such treatment lost their licenses. This law will help to place all of our citizens under the same rules.” -—— - * - «m«n a • n« • a liuwii ruynictti Fitness flnwirti Begin Monday Registration for McCrorey Branch Y.M.C.A.’s Physical Fitness Gasses will be held on Monday, January 19.
