Wil liam Lee Jr., Sunday, July 11, at 2:30 p.m. Dinner will be served before the appreciation service at 1:30 p.m. Guest speaker for the service will be the Rev. Warren McKissick, pastor of Greater Galilee^ Baptist Church. Under Lee’s leadership, ac cording to a statement from the church, more than 500 new members have been added to the church congregation. He has been pastor of the church since 1966. Over $175,000 has been rais ed for church improvements. A house and 15 lots have been added to the church property, said the statement. Plans have been made for the addition of a $200,000 edu cational and fellowship wing to the church. Construction on this project has been delayed, 9 however, because of possible Rev. The minister has worked with the company for 8 years and has distinguished himself in his work, said the rhurrh Cancer Seen In Smoker-Drinker EARLIER ORAL CANCER SEEN IN SMOKER-DRIN KERS: A ten-year study at Roswell Park Memorial Insti tute in Buffalo, the New York State Department of Health's comprehensive cancer center, shows that women who use alcohol and tobacco may de velop oral cancer as many as 15 years earlier than women who abstain from these pro tobacco use. One hundred forty-five of the women surveyed were later diagnosed as having can cers of the mouth and-or ton gue. In the 40-64 age category, 10 of these women were ab stainers; that is, they neither smoked or drank. They have six sons. St Paul Baptist The St Paul Church Musical Choir-will hold its fourth an nual concert Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the main sanctuary of the North Allen Street Church. Drum mond is the minister of the church. The Mecklenburg General Baptist Congress of Christian Education will hold its 54th statement from Congress Pre sident Cedric H Jones. Dr. A.B. Sutton, newly elected pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, will speak Thrusday night following a 30-minute welcoming pro gram by the host church, said Jones. An oratorial contest for youth will be held Friday evening Junior High. Senior High and 1976 graduates will speak. Each contestant will receive a prize. Jones said Jones will address the sub ject, ' The Unfinished Task of Christian Services ', following the contest. Seigle Avenue Church of God The Rev. W.D. In the over 65 age group, there were no heavy drinkers and smokers and only four women who drank moderately and smoked.$ “It is clear that the use of both alcohol and tobacco caus ed an earlier onset of oral cancer among these women", Dr. Bross said. “For those who used neither product, on set of the disease usually did not occur until after age 65.” _ WOMEN STUDENTS IN DENTAL SCHOOLS DOUBLE IN NUMBER: The nation’s dental schools now have 1,861 female students-double the number two years ago. The American Dental Association reports that of 5,763 first-year dental students, 707 - 12 per cent - are women. Women now make up 9 percent of the 20,767 total enrollment in dental schools. THE MORTALITY RISK with the use of contraception is lower than the risk of death from childbirth and pregnan cy without birth control, ac cording to a report by Dr. Christopher Tietze. The analy sis by Dr. Tietze found this to be true for most women, ex cept those over 40 years of age who use oral contraceptives. At that point, the pill carries a somwhat higher mortality risk, he reported. He based the analysis on information about women from the United States and Great Britian.
