Ethel Merman Is Guest Of“Sha Na Na* fctnei Merman, the first la dy of the Broadway stage, tries to introduce the boys to Broadway culture when she joins Sha Na Na, Wednesday, September 28 at 8:30 p.m. on WBTV, Channel 3. The musical highlight of the show is when Ethel Merman and Bowser harmonize on “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better.” In doing so she proves that Sha Na Na will never possess that Broadway beat and even Bowser admits Miss Merman sings better and louder than Sha Na Na. Trying to help the boys to welcome Ethel Merman, regu lar Avery Schreiber tries to add a little class to their act. WBTV To Air United Way Report WBTV, WSOC and WCCB are cooperating to present a special program on behalf of the United Way to air on all three stations, as well as Charlotte’s fourth commercial TV station, WRET. Hosted by Doug Mayes of WBTV and Jeanne Bohn of WSOC-TV, it will be shown on WBTV, Chan nel 3, Sunday, September 2Sth at 6:30 p.m. The program will summa rize the activities of the United Way during the past 12 mon ths, and will examine the needs for the coming year. WBTV's Lou Heckler, Clara Lowry, C.J. Underwood and Abigail Flanders, and repre sentatives from the other sta tions, will give on-tbe-scene reports from 8 of the X agencies served by the Unitec Way of Mecklenburg and Un . ion counties. Little Black Boy Presents Problem To John Walton John, already the father of four sons, is in a dilemma over what to do with a little black boy, a stray, who doesn’t understand why he can’t be come a member of the family on “The Waltons,” Thursday, September 29 at 7:30 p.m. on WBTV, Channel 3. Josh, who has attached him self to John, tries his best to make a good impression on the family, hoping they will persuade John to let him stay.' At the same time, Jim-Bob who is taking odd jobs, is not very successful, due primarily to his absentmindedness. Informal Gathering Held For Jim Whittington An informal gathering, hos ted by Nick and Eleanor Har vey, was held for mayoral candidate Jim Whittington Monday night at the Gallery on E. Morehead St. During the evening approxi mately 60 people enjoyed light refreshments and had the op portunity to question Whitting ton on a wide variety of issues. Among the topics discussed were the 20 year Comprehen sive plan, the Beltway, the relationship between the growth of UNCC and Char lotte, and the continued grow' th of the city governmental complex. J. Friedkin, the TV executive trying to flee the country dressed as a down and regular Kenneth Mars as a German officer,_ Poet Editor Appointed To Board Hoyle H.
