The motion picture version of “The Wix” is scheduled for . i elease very soon by Univer sal Studios. It will star Diana Ross, Lena Horne, and Richard Pryor sparkled by the many talents of Geoffrey Holder. Motown Records is making a step in the right direction in the motion picture industry. It is in the process of establish ing their own in-house film company. Motown’s founder and chairman of the Board, Berry Gordy has announced that he will direct “Nightmare Alley,” Tyrone Power’s powerful epic. Billy Dee Williams will play the starring role. American musical influence is finally penetrating the iron curtain country of Russia. In prior years, American pop artist have had their music banded by the Soviet govern ment. Abba was the force that brought on this historic inci dent. An undisclosed amount of Abba’s new album was smuggled into Russia. It was so well received that the Soviet government decided to capatilize on the profits. They are now playing music by Russian artist on their air waves. In and around the Carolinas there are many events coming up for the holiday weekend. “South Pacific” win premier in the Queen City on Thurs day, June 29. Bootsy Collins and company will be here on Friday, the 30th with their all new show for geepies and funkateers. The Carolina Jam will highlight the holiday week festivities with an outdoor show to include George Duke. Mother’s Finest, Kool and the Gang, Sun, Cameo, Wild Cherry, Jimmy “Bo” Horn, and several regional groups. Less than half an hour away, Enchantment and Eddie Kendricks will rock Lancaster Memorial Stadium in Lancas ter, South Carolina on Wednesday, July 5, at 7 p.m. Lesley Wilson of New Birth is endeavoring on a new career as a solo artist. The ABC Television Net work’s presentation of “Roots” has been selected as the winner of the 1978 Clarion Awards. Delores Kilgo, WBT Educa tion Reporter, has accepted a Certificate of Appreciation from the North Carolina Asso ciation of Educators. The Certificate was awarded to her for her work on all of her education related news stories over WBT. Colleague Ray Gooding will be a judge at this year’s Charlottetown Mall Show. Known to his listeners as Rockin’ Ray, Gooding has also accepted a Certificate of Appreciation for WBT from the Mecklenburg Jaycees. This Community Directors helped in the North Carolina Zoo-A-Thon raising over $225,000._ starting July 1. there will be a major change involving the local television stations. The change concerns the network affiliation of our stations. WCCB Channel 18 will become independent with WSOC Channel 9 picking up its ABC Television affiliation. The award was presented to Promotion Manager Dolores Richards and Producer Walt Lloyd for a sixty second pro gram guide promo. WTVI is the first public television stat ion to receive an honor of this nature. Their entry competed with those from commercial and public stations throughout the United States and Canada. Over 700 entries competed in 32 categories of radio and television. The 'Mint Museum of History will ho6t a demonstra tion of 18th century weaving every Sunday for the remain der of the summer at the Hezekiah Alexander Home site. Traditional colonial patterns will be weaved before your eyes on an 18 century loom as the weaver explains the workings of the loom. Woven creations will be sold at the Mobcap, the Museum shop run by the Alexander Ladies Auxiliary at the Museum of History. ■The Alexander Homesite is open to the public each Satur day and Sunday from 2 p m. to 4 p m. Admission is $1 for adults and $.50 for children. Weekday tours of the homesite can be scheduled for groups by calling 568-1774 for a re servation at least two weeks in advance. ' Worrell’s Concert Louis Worrell will be per forming in concert with the AIM Ensemble of the Charlotte Summer Pops Orchestra at 8:15 at the Visu lite Theatre on July 3. Worrell is a musician of national acclaim who has received the concert grant from the Nation al Endowment of the Arts, sponsored locally by Spirit Square.
