WBT Radio Will Welcome Hie New Year 1110 WBT Radio will welcome the New Year with an 8-hour count down of the biggest hit record» of 1978. "The Top 100 Songs of H7V wiH begin at 2 p.m. on December 31st with the number 100 record and count down to the number one song ' at 10 p.m. The special program is based on Billboard Maga zine's year-end tally and is produced by Watermark, Inc. The show's host is Casey Kasem who provides back ground information on each record and the artists. Their moet recept Casablanca-Chocolate City effort, "We All Know Who We Are," sold more than 400,000 copies and reached No. 58 on Billboard's pop charts. Their debut album, "Cardiac Arrest," garnered two Top 20 hits, "Rigor Mortis" and "Funk, Funk." Now Cameo has released its third album, "Ugly Ego," which is an obvious progress ion for the group, according to "group leader Larry Blaçkm on. "We've spent more time and concentration on this al bum ' than any other, " he «plained, "and it shows in subtlety of the strings, horns atwi tfnrfll arranainn «r »■ »· Born In Harlem, Larry was encouraged to study music by his parents. His father works as a manager-trainer with boxing promoter Don King, which is where Larry got a feel for showmanship. He started forming groups, first in Philadelphia (where Ms family moved), then back in New York, where he atten ded citssBS at the Julliard School of Music and where he met Gregory Johnson. Larry became group organ izer and supplied the determi nation to keep the band toget her in its early years, con stantly emphasizing that mus icianship was not a gift to be abused. First to join Blackmon and Johnson were singer Tomi "Tee" Jenkins and trumpeter Nathan Leftenant, who intro duced his brother Arnet on tenor sax and woodwinds. Gui tarists Eric Durham and Ant hony Lockhart,' vocalist Wayne Cooper and bassist Arron Mills complete the unit. The nine-man combo puts on a stage show that's out of this world-smoke bombe, multi colored lights, and confetti ffilled explosions! Cameo gy rates, whirls, kicks and wob bles!
