Beverly A. Walker ...Music major Beverly Walker Graduates With Highest Average Johnson C. Smith student Beverly Anita Walker was graduated from the Univer sity Cum Laude with the high est average of all music majors at the school during recent commencement exer cises. Among the honors and awards Miss Walker, a music major received, are the following: the C.W. Kemp Scholar Award; she was listed as Who’s Who Among College Students in 1978-79, and was an nonor rou student jor six semesters. She participated in the J.C.S.U. Choir and Touring Choir, was vice president and treasurer of the Music Educa tors National Conference, and founder and direct*, of The New Sensations (a c#..., us Gospel group). Miss Walker was also a member of the Pan Hellenic Council, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Alpha Kappa Societies, and co-chairman of the Homecoming 1978 Steering Committee. As a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Miss Walker is director of the Young Adult Choir. She is the youngest of six children and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie M. Walker of Enslow Place in Charlotte. Mrs. Watkins To Serve With YWCA . National Committee The 28th National Conven tion of the YWCA, held last week in Dallas, Texas, elected Charlotte’s Mrs. Carlton G; Watkins to the National Nomi nating Committee of the Y for - the 1979-1982 triennium. Mrs. Watkins was one of an 11-woman delegation to the convention, including: Mrs. Vico C. (Eloise) Isola of La mont Drive; Eulada (Mrs. Mel) Watt of Myrtle Ave.; Eleanor (Mrs. Thomas) Mc Nair of Somerdale Lane; Ms. Idelia J. Proctor of Village Green Drive; Dr. Virginia Stevens of Kingfisher Drive, Pineville, Executive Director of the Charlotte YWCA; Ms Pat G. Cox of Brown’s Cove Rd.; Ms. Michelle Dezzutto of Firwood Lane; Ms. Celesta McCullough of Heathcliff St.; Katherine (Mrs. John T.) Moore of Hidden Forest Dr.; and Ms. Naomi Myles, of Dorchester Drive. Some 1,799 persons, repre senting 326 U.S. and 12 foreign YWCA associations, attended the convention.
